SOURCE: NTI Backup Now 5 file restore not starting

The biggest problem I have encountered with back up now is when you try to run a complete restore the program just can't handle it. Try breaking the restore down into smaller jobs 2 to 3 gg.

SOURCE: hi I'll briefly describe my problem I've

You might need to get an older version of NTI Backup Now. I had the same issue. I was using Backup Now 4 which saved everything as .nbf.files. I downloaded a trial version of Backup Now 5.5 and tried to restore the files only to find .nbf files are not compatible with version 5.5!
I sent a rather facetious e-mail to NTI moaning about this issue and they sent me a trial version of version 4. If I were you, I'd do the same. http://www.nticorp.com/en/us/product/backup_now5.asp
All my .nbf files are now restored.

Hello bobdurack
I'm not shure this is the solution but it's a possibility : has the letter of your external Toshiba eventually changed ?

SOURCE: How to compare contents of two external hardrives?

Here are some free utilities/tools that can help you do a directory/file comparison. My favorite is Windows Commander but they changed the name to Total Commander. Its FREE though! You can find out more about this utility at the following website. http://www.ghisler.com/Or go straight to the Total Commander download page. http://www.ghisler.com/download.htm

How can I conform that NTI is working? I can't see changes.

I presume that you are referring to a program produced by NTI, probably NTI Echo, which is a backup program. If so, then be aware that as it is a backup program, it will not delete data from your hard drive but, instead, make a second copy of it (thus the term backup). If what you want to do is use the drive for additional storage so as to free up space on your primary hard drive, then you do not need to use any software whatsoever. Just move the data from the C: drive to the new external hard drive and make it happen.

One suggestion, however: make sure to use directories (aka folders) to organize the files that you move to the external drive. The reason being that the root directory (such as C: or D:) has a limited amount of storage capacity, so just dumping files into the root will cause the hard drive to be "full" despite having plenty of storage capacity remaining. Besides, it will be easier to find the data that you desire if you have it more appropriately organized. ;-)

You have an issue - if my understanding is correct ' you are trying to restore your files, programs etc., to a new computer.

Backups are meant to restore the files and windows operating system etc. on the same computer the backup was created from. If you bought a new computer, it cannot do any restoration of the backup file from the hard drive.

if this is not the case, you need to provide more information for anyone to help.

Toshina External Hard Drive backup files in

Which program did you create the backup with? You'll need to install a copy of that software on your new computer. Then you will let the software find the backup and restore it. This will only work if you used a file backup. Many backup programs do not restore to systems with different hardware (different CPU, hard drive, OS, etc.).

However, I don't know which software uses *. PFT, pfi or pfp extensions. PBF is the format for one of the older Paragon Backup software versions. Acronis uses *.TIB . For a list of many of the software extensions used for backups, see https://www.file-extensions.org/filetype/extension/name/backup-files .

Canvio drives used to include NTI BackupNow EZ software. However, I believe that NTI backups use BJF or NTI extensions. The installer for that is here: http://support.toshiba.com/sscontent?contentId=3044104 . To check for other software for your external drive, try looking up your drive at http://support.toshiba.com/support/home . The available drivers and software should be listed. Alternatively, check if the backup software installer is still on the external drive.

I hope this helps.
