PowerShot A85 does not turn on with memory card in.

I have an A85 powershot. It still works despite its age. But it only works without the memory card. It turns on when there is no memory card. But if I put the memory card in, it won't turn on. Any idea what could be problematic?

If you have already tried different memory card than there is something to do with the memory card slot it will be good to try open your device and clean the card holder with spirit.

Testimonial: "Thanks for you answer. I'm afraid I have no other memory card. And I don't want to buy another one for that old device. I already open my device and clean card holder. There's seem to have a connexion problem but only when I insert the memory card. I try that : I open the door with card holder without card. I press the little plastic switch to let the device believe the door is closed. I switch the power button on. The device turn on. As soon I put the memory card in the card holder, the device turn off."

Hi,
It is known problem of ccd imager chip failure in Canon A85 camera and ccd imager chip will be replaced by local camera repair shop to solve this issue.
Since camera wont show live view/ blank screen so same gets saved as picture in memory card that is why no picture/ image in playback either.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

PowerShot A85 Digital Camera: when I connect my camera (canon powershot a85) to ...

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.

Unable to download pictures

In the short term you can take the memory card out and use a card reader - at least that will let you see the pictures.

What is the highest memory card for Canon Powershot A85 will support? 512MB, 1G to 4G ?

Memory cards are storage devices, so there is no highest storage cards. Your choice of storage cards depend on how large you want your file to be before uploading. So you can use up to 4G or more memory card for your Canon Powershot A85

What size in inches is a A85 memory card. I put

The A85 uses a Type 1 Compact Flash (CF) card. If you're trying to put an SD card into the slot, it won't work. Using a strong light, check carefully in the card slot that you haven't bent any pins before inserting a CF card.
