Question about Jenn-Air JCD2295HES Side by Side Refrigerator

Water on floor under unit & ice bottom of freezer

Had a problem with unit not getting cold, and ice was forming on the plastic surfaces of the freezer. I noticed the door on freezer side was slightly ajar. I turned off the unit and defrosted it for an entire day and night, siphoning the water out of the little collection point in the back of the freezer section. Then started the unit again. After that, unit has stayed cold, but one day a few days later noticed that my hardwood floor was warped in front of the unit and discovered that water had collected underneath, but no water in the pan under right side of unit. I then opened the freezer to discover that there was a sheet of ice on the floor of the freezer section and an ice dam had collected where the drainage hole in the back of the unit is located near the bottom of the freezer section above the area where ice had obviously cascaded down the little wall section above the floor of the freezer. We turned off the water supply line for the icemaker, but the problem only grew worse.

By going online, saw several posts re this problem. In short, the water drain was clogged and there was also a problem with the defrost timer. Service man blew out the drain line with compressed air and installed a new timer. Voila! Problem fixed. Interestingly, the serviceman found a wad of what looked like putty, but was sticky like gum in the drain area. He said he had never encountered anything similar.

Freezer and frig not as cold

It sounds like the heater that automatically defrosts the unit may have failed. Before calling service I recommend checking the following: all door seals, make sure they are closed and sealing properly, also the condenser coil either on the back or bottom of the machine should be vacuumed out regularly to get rid of dust buildup. If that's all good it may be the defrost heater and if you're handy you can look up on youtube how to replace it or call a professional.

Make sure the fan which is near the compressor around back is working when the compressor is running.
OR
Cold air getting to the surface where the condensation forms. Could be bad gasket leaking or crack in the interior plastic or deteriorated insulation in door.

You have a bad freezer door gasket!! it's letting moisture seep into the freezer and once the moisture hits the extream cold it turns to ice crystals. The freezer is designed to get as cold as 0 degrees and the ice cubes stay in cube form as long as the temp is below 32 degrees so the ice cubes didn't make a difference. You can try and CLEAN the contact surfaces of the gasket and freezer real good this usually works,if the gasket is damaged you will need to replace it.

Our freezer and fridge or not keeping cold enough

This can be caused by the drain hole below freezer coil being blocked by ice. You MUST remove all ice in drain under freezer coil. Use turkey baster to squirt hot water into hole and use hairdryer to defrost. Possible defrost thermostat is defective. Unit never goes into defrost, ice forms on coil and in floor or back of freezer. After defrosting may work OK for a week or two but gradually gets warmer because ice is blocking ports where cool air gets to refrig. May also have water in refrig box. Can also be caused by defective defrost timer.

SNOW FORMING IN FREEZER

Could be a number of things. Is the fan running in the freezer section, are the door gaskets sealing completely, even on the bottom of the doors? Could be a defrost issure where the thermotat is allowing it to over heat during defrost and the the cooling cycle starts after defrost and forms the ice an snow from the moisture in the unit.

Small patch of ice if frost free freezer

Frost free does not mean no frost ever anywhere. It just means that there is a mechanism to defrost the evaporator on a regular basis. If there is a spot where frost is forming in the box it may just mean that a little bit of moisture that is not collected on the coil may be finding another cold spot to stick. The area where the fan blows into the cabinet is bound to be the coldest spot in the freezer therefore an ideal place to collect frost. Check the level of the unit and your door gasket to be sure the door is closing tight and true.
