Panther Retail version with the 3 disk and the X

It usually means "cannot read file" or something along those lines. You can try cleaning the disk, or making a copy with another machine.

If not you will have to find another recovery disk or a retail version of the Windows you are trying to install, which I suspect is XP.

Depending on the model of your IBM PC, it could be that it has a CD drive and not a DVD drive. The Sims 3 game is on a DVD. If this is the case you will have to upgrade your CD player to a DVD player.

To test if your drive is working insert an original music CD into the drive and see if it plays. If it does play you most likely have a CD player and not a DVD player, which means you will have to upgrade to a DVD player/writer drive anyway.
These are relatively inexpensive and retail for approximately $20 to $50.

firstly remove your post listing the activation code, everyone will now have it and it will get blocked.
secondly it is most likely you are installing the wrong version of the OS that is for your reg code.
if for example your code is on the bottom of your laptop, on a sticker, it will have the manufacturers name there (ie dell) and odds are this means its an OEM version, meaning that its not the retail version but one bulk supplied to a manufacturer for their support.
you need to find an OEM version of the install disk. likewise if you have a retail license number, then you need to get a retail copy of the install disk.

PS do not reply with what version you have...this will help someone use you UNIQUE license key above.

1. NEVER list your Serial, or Disk code on a website completely. 2. Is this based off of the disk you purchased, or was it gained through means of a warez post, or torrent? 3. Is this code for the version you have? Sometimes manufacturers (to deter keygen makers) will encode two different types of serials to their product, one for web downloaded images of their program disk, and another for the "retail" store bought disk images. These codes are NOT interchangeable on these types, and cannot be used with the other type. So if you bought a retail disk at Gamestop, then lost it, and downloaded the ISO, that Retail serial may not work for that game. If it was obtained from a keygen, nfo, file, torrent, warez, or P2P then good luck getting it to work at all, since it uses online authentication to make sure it's legit.

This message indicates that the CD you are attempting to boot from is a release of the Mac OS which is incompatible with this model of Macintosh. I would recommend a retail disk of Tiger or Panther for this vintage Mac.

if your disk is worn you have to buy a new one from sony with the original software on it. there is no other option

It can be several reasons
1. Disk is upside down
2. Lens is durty. CD/DVD cleaning disk will help
3. Disk is in different formate (for instance NTSC for US but you trying to playback disk in PAL)
4. Disk has different region code (look is the dvd player and disk have the same code, or ALL Regions code)

I've used Nero for years now and I don't upgrade each and every time a new version comes out.

Nero is a do all software package, you can create and edit videos for DVD, copy disk to disk, etc. etc.

If you want only a labeling software program you want to buy Sure Thing CD/DVD Labeler for $29.99 available from most stores like Office Depot and Staples. You can find it online too at NewEgg.com for example.

its oem, you either need IBMs restore cd for your particular laptop (model) or an xp pro (any service pack will do) OEM disk.
You can not get the OEM disk at best buy, circuit city target etc those are retail versions and will not work. Newegg.com or frys electronics are your best bet, but by buying it from them you are getting another copy of xp pro, just use the cd with the keycode on your laptop and then you can install xp pro on another pc using the code that came with the disk. MAKE SURE YOU ARE GETTING AN OEM VERSION AND NOT A RETAIL VERSION.

Some technical stuff:
 For the xp pro disk you MUST have the COA product key available, this is usually on the bottom of your laptop, for IBMs disk you just have to have an IBM WITH an IBM motherboard as without the motherboard it will not work. For example, the motherboard goes out and you replace it with a non ibm board it will only boot for 3-5 times, the ideaa is that this gives you time to get your documents off. This is per Microsoft agreement with ibm and all other Original equipment manufactures this include hp, dell etc.
