Sounds like she needs a good cleaning and a light oiling.

SOURCE: i have a ithaca model 49 lever action single shot

there is a lever under the barrel and it is probably worn beyond function or broken off all you need to do is disassemble the gun and replace it. ( get yourself some good brass punches)

SOURCE: model 70 270 win will not eject spent shells

The ejector pin becomes flattened with sharp edges... it shaves brass, the brass helps stick the pin which is also penned out and a bit larger now. I took mine out and honed it so that it did not shave brass and would slide easily in the hole.... Make sure your spring is back in before you try the pin (You want something to push it back out). Most important... don't let the pin and spring get away from you. You can look on a chambered and ejected cartridge to see exactly where the bras is being shaved from. In my case it was the very back, outer flange, indicating the ejector pin.
Good luck ... hint... really use your eyes

Can brass be detected with a metal detector?

Non-Ferrous metal is non-magnetic metals that copper, aluminum, brass, lead, etc. It will take approximately 50% more of a non-ferrous metal to be as detectable as a ferrous metal. Manganese is also a non-ferrous metal and difficult for most metal detectors to detect. Expended brass rounds should be quite easy to find with just about any inexpensive detector. Try your local on Radio Shack, they usually have Bounty Hunter machines in stock. Brass shell casings ejected and laying in the grass should send a loud, easy to pinpoint signal. I have been fortunate in being witness to the volunteer honor guard at Camp Butler National Cemetery on several occasions over the years so I feel compelled to say "Thank You" for your dedication and patriotism for our fallen military brethren, new and old alike. Give the weapon a thorough cleaning.. get all the powered fouling out and a light lubrication - it should work as new again. Reloading your own or factory fresh stuff?

Not much can go wrong. Have you checked your extractor? If it's intact and not broken, try moving it with your thumbnail. Is it loose? That's a spring problem. If it's tight and intact, WITH THE BOLT OUT, try slipping a small diam wooden dowel down the barrel to see how hard it is to push a spent shell out. If it's tight, you've got a burr in the chamber or dirt/varnish buildup. Examine the shell for scratches. If the shell's good and no scratches, clean the chamber with a brass brush mounted in a drill.

Mossberg 500, shell will not eject

did you check the elevator to make sure its not applying the pressure on the cartridge interrupter and cartridge stop? or that one or both aren't damaged and over bent. the ejector slot on the bolt isn't damaged, or the action slide bars.

I have a shell stuck in my Remington Power Actuated Tool Model 476. How do I get it out? Thanks!

Simple take a wood screw and insert it in the spent shell. Gently apply downward pressure while turning the screw a partial thread in. Then use a pair of needle nose pliers to pull it out using the 476's casing as a leverage point. Just did this and worked well. Allen key and pocket knife ideas did not work as the shell is too tight in the chamber.
