One or more of the gears on the drive train is damaged, you wil need to take the Printer to a service centre to be repaired.

It sounds likea problem with your paper stock. Check the following to make sure you are using a paper type that is compatible with your printer.

Recommended paper

Plain Paper: Xerox Premier 80 gsm
Xerox Business 80 gsm
Mode DATACOPY 80 gsm
IGEPA X-Press 80 gsm
Recycled paper: Xerox Recycled Supreme
Transparency: 3M CG 3300
Labels: Avery laser label L7163

??  Before you buy a large amount of paper, please test some to make sure that the paper is suitable.
??  Use paper that is made for plain-paper copying.
??  Use paper that is 75 to 90 gsm.
??  Use neutral paper. Do not use acidic or alkaline paper.
??  Use long-grain paper.
??  Use paper with a moisture content of approximately 5%.

Caution
Do not use ink jet paper. It may cause a paper jam and damage your MFC.

Choosing acceptable paper

It is recommended that you test paper (especially special sizes and types of paper) on the MFC before purchasing large quantities.

??  Avoid feeding label sheets that are partly used or your MFC will be damaged.
??  Avoid using coated paper, such as vinyl coated paper.
??  Avoid using preprinted or highly textured paper, or paper with an embossed letterhead. For optimum printing, use a recommended type of paper, especially for plain paper and transparencies. For more information on paper specifications, call your nearest authorized sales representative or the place where you purchased your MFC.
??  Use labels or transparencies that are designed for use in laser printers.
??  For the best print quality, we recommend using long-grained paper.
??  If you are using special paper and the paper has problems feeding from the paper tray, try again using the manual feed tray or Multi-purpose tray.
??  You can use recycled paper in this MFC.

The output quality depends on the paper type and paper brand. Visit http://solutions.brother.com and check the latest recommendations for paper that can be used with the MFC-8840D.

Brother MFC-8840D printer w/false paper jam indication.

With my Brother 8840D I have had paper jams that when cleared would not delete from the display nor would the machine operate until I unplugged the machine for around eight hours. I guess it is a sort of reset or reboot.

Brother MFC-8840d ADF feed problem

Hi, the left hinge is spring loaded to keep the lid open. This applies a lot of pressure on the pivot point of the hinge (steel pin/plastic hinge) that elongates the plastic holes and raises the lid from the scanner. As the paper leaves the scan window, a ramp next to the scan window sends the paper up to the tray, just past that ramp under the lid is a lip that guides the paper to the tray. With the hinge stretched, the lip is too high and catches the end of the paper at the rear only, and jams the paper. If you press on the cover (with the new hinge) and it does not catch then you have installed a bad hinge. Also ensure that the top part of the hinge is on the guide pins under the cover.

Hinge and paperfeed

You need a new hinge, #LP2403001, and the grinding is because the fuser has a broken gear.

Brother mfc-8840d printer jam and have checked machine at least 10 times and there is no jam. can i reset printer or what do i d? it is driving me crazy that i cannot use this machine. thanks.

This might be off base but I have found two common causes for this. First, a small piece of paper can tear off and block a sensor giving a false alarm and second, the sensor it self can get stuck with the same result. Try canned air in all the nooks and crannies where the paper moves by. Make sure to remove the ink and unplug power. Otherwise a sensor could be bad which would mean factory trained service, unless you are very handy with small parts removal and replacement. Good Luck

Paper jam on my brother mfc 8440

It is possible that a small piece of paper is stuck in the paper path above the primary feed roller. It will most likely need to be disassembled.
