Press FN button and then left arrow screen at same time, the screen brightened instantly. Didn't save or do anything else, so was very simple. Problem occurred after updating to Windows 10. So this can work.

No laptop stated at all, just ACER..
Take out the big battery, first.
leave it out
now plug in AC pack. wall AC to PC.
it the screen must show at least errors or text of some kind
if not the PC is dead. (we test the pack with a voltmeter) ask
or get the PC serviced in a shop.

SOURCE: Laptop monitor goes black

it sounds like your display's backlight is going bad. Depending how handy you are, you may be able to replace just the LCD, they might have new or used LCDs on E-Bay.

SOURCE: My Acer 22" AL2223W monitor display goes Black

try hooking it up to another computer to ensure
it is not the graphics card that makes trouble...

if still the same prob, check the net if there are
known overheating problems for that model,
i personally recommend to see a technician, as repairing a monitor could make things worse...

up to u, good luck then

SOURCE: My syncmaster 732N powers up okay, goes black in 3 sec

Look for caps with leaking/bulging top or have high ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance, need cap meter with ESR testing).
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed SAMSUNG monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

SOURCE: Acer Aspire 5536 only gives black screen when i connect power supply

  • Nothing is more annoying than a monitor that refuses to turn on. Make sure your Acer monitor is plugged in to a functioning outlet. If it's plugged into a power strip, try replacing it with a new one or moving the plug to a different outlet. Ensure that both ends of the power cable are plugged in firmly and securely, and that the connection to the monitor is not loose.
Cable Issues
  • Your Acer LCD monitor will usually accept DVI and VGA inputs. If you have an older computer, a VGA cable should work fine. If it doesn't have a VGA port, you'll need to obtain an inexpensive DVI to VGA adapter at your local computer store. A DVI cable, however, is compatible with most modern computers and offers superior picture quality over VGA. Make sure you're using the cable that's compatible with your system, and that you have the proper conversion adapter, if necessary.

Acer Aspire 5720 - was on the internet when display fuzzed out and then turned black, now have no display only fuzzy black/grey screen. Can you tell me what the problem is?

Unplug your laptop and remove the battery from it, and wait 5 minutes, that should drain any remaining power from the laptop, re-attach the battery and the power cord, and turn it on. It should work fine again.

if not, let me know.

The adapter light is on when first plugged in but then when I connect the adapter to my laptop the light goes off and it doesnt supply any power

I suggest check out the AC adapter first.

1) When plugged into power, and plugged into the laptop, gently wiggle the cable from the AC adapter TO laptop.

Any change?

Do the same on the power cord TO AC adapter.

NO?
Go on.

2) The port on the laptop that the plug from the AC adapter plugs into, is the DC Power Jack.
If we are discussing an Acer Aspire 5738Z Notebook PC, the DC Power Jack resembles this one, (Not installed),

http://www.batterysupport.com/acer-aspire-5738-jack-p-302046.html

(When I note the DC Power Jack, it is this link I will be referring to )

As you can see there is a Center Pin. All power removed from the laptop, use a small wooden, or plastic object, and see if this pin moves around.

ANY perceptible movement means a bad DC Power Jack.

DC Power Jack checks out it's back to the AC adapter.
Wanted to perform the easy diagnosis first.

This will require a multimeter. An economical, yet fine for this test multimeter, can be purchased for as little as $8 to $12.

Available in a multitude of stores. An auto parts store is but one example.
Analog or digital is fine.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bF3OyQ3HwfU

(Analog is fine. Some of us still like 'em)

DC Voltage is what you are going to check.

Black probe lead (Negative) goes in the Common port on the multimeter. (COM)
Red probe lead (Positive) goes in the Voltage port on the multimeter. (V)

If the multimeter just has symbols around the Function Knob, set it to the dotted line over a solid line, symbol.

The plug on the end of the AC adapter, that plugs into the laptop, has a center hole, and a cylindrical metal shield surrounding it.

The Center Hole of the plug is where the red Positive lead, of the multimeter goes.

The outside cylindrical metal shell is where the black Negative lead of the multimeter goes.

Hold the AC adapter plug in one hand, and at the same time hold the red Positive multimeter probe in the center hole.

With the other hand touch the black Negative lead of the multimeter, to the cylindrical metal shield on the outside of the plug.

You should read 19 Volts (DC), or VERY close to it,

http://www.cellularfactory.com/laptop/ACER/3/305268/

I believe the AC adapter is the problem. Post back in a Comment as to your findings.

My Acer Netbook will turn on and start to boot up but suddenly goes to a black screen and keeps repeatedly saying check cable connection and some other things.. It will not let me do anything else.. please...

sounds like a bad power cord- make certain you have power coming from your ac adapter- the reason you see a black screen is that your system has a critically low battery. get a good charger, should be able to work from there.

My acer al1916w displays the image for 3 seconds then goes black

Sounds like your video card. Check to make sure it's connected properly. If so, check to make sure it's properly seated to *********** board. The possible issue could be the card is connected enough to display the picture, but not enough to communicate with the monitor to stay on because it has an active feed. Best of luck fixing it

Welcome to Vista. Windows Vista is automatically set up to power down after you have left it alone for too long. If you press the power button everything should be fine. Otherwise tell me what happens.
