Resolder the vertical deflection section. Change pump up capacitor if it has one...100uf is a typical value. Is the vertical output some flavor of LA783x ?? May need to replace. A model # would help.

SOURCE: GE 19GT243 REMOTE CONTROL CODE FOR A RADIO SHACK 3-IN-ONE REMOTE

http://www.hifi-remote.com/ofa/codes-tv.shtml#tv

If none of the codes work then we have two other solutions:

1. Searching For Your Code

If you have tried all of the set-up codes for your brand of equipment ,or yourbrand is not listed, and you are still not able to get the unit to respond, trythe following procedure to search for your code.
If you don't find a code that works, the remote will flash four times when youreach the end of all the codes for this device type.

  1. PRESS the button for the device you want to program, (TV, VCR, CABLE, etc.), then RELEASE.
  2. PRESS and HOLD the SETUP button until the red LED flashes twice, then RELEASE.
  3. ENTER 9-9-1 (two blinks on the remote)
  4. ALTERNATE slowly between the POWER key and the DEVICE (TV, VCR, CABLE, etc.) button until your device turns off. (On VCR, LD, and CD players use PLAY instead of POWER)
Make sure that the remote is pointed at your device during the search, You may have to press this sequences of buttons up to 100 times to search the entire library of codes.
  5. When your device turns OFF, PRESS the SETUP button and RELEASE it to lock in the code for your device.

2. Learn the buttons from the original

Line up your original remote and the head-to-head before completing thefollowing steps.
  1. PRESS and HOLD the SETUP button until the red LED flashes twice.
  2. PRESS 9 - 7 - 5, the red LED will flash twice.
  3. PRESS the DEVICE key where you wish to learn the function. The next 3 steps must be completed within 10 seconds.
  4. PRESS the button that will receive the learned function, the LED will flash rapidly.
  5. PRESS the button on the original remote to be learned.

Now you can repeat steps 3 through 5 to learn other functions onto other keysor press and hold SETUP until the Cinema's red light flashes twice to lock inyour new feature. (If the red light does not blink twice, stop and repeat stepsthrough 6).
To test the new feature, press and release the device key in which the newfeature was learned followed by the key on which the feature was learned

SOURCE: picture and text extend beyond screen

Your tv needs to be put into service mode with the original Sony remote control and then set the vertical\horizontal size parameter to the correct values and then burn the new settings to memory
Google " sony tv service mode " and you should find the procedure. Good Luck! Write back if you have problems.

Sounds like a tuner fault. Contact any service technician to make it confirm, and to replace. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Viewing it in "Mosaic" will make surf easy.

Shrinking picture on both sides

Can you be a bit more specific please? Do you get bowing of the picture, or is the picture just reduced in size? If it it just reduced in size, check the settings..You may have chosen a different display or letterbox mode, etc.

Also it would be helpful if you could post the make and model of your TV, and if it is a CRT/LCD/Plasma, etc..

Picture size

I found the user manual online, and the pictures in it are really helpful and make this make a lot more sense, but:
1. Press [SCREEN MODE], to switch the TV aspect ratio.
2. Press [SCREEN MODE] repeatedly until the normal screen displays.
NOTE: • Some programs may not offer all display mode options.
4:3 Programming
[Sidebar] Sidebar displays a 4:3 picture at its standard 4:3 size. Sidebars will be displayed on the right and left edges of the screen.
[Full] Full displays a 4:3 picture at a 16:9 size, with horizontal elongation necessary to fill the screen.
[Cinema] Cinema displays a 4:3 picture at a 16:9 size, with less horizontal elongation necessary to fill the screen because a little bit of the top and bottom edge of the screen will be cut off.
[Wide] Wide displays the center of the picture as original size and the outer sides of the picture will be elongated. The size of the picture will depend on the original signal.
16:9 Programming
[Full] A picture is displayed at 16:9 size as it is.
[Zoom] Zoom displays a 16:9 picture without changing its horizontal and vertical ratio, at its maximum size.
[Cinema] Cinema displays a 16:9 picture with vertical elongation.
[Expand] Expand displays a 16:9 picture with horizontal elongation

Picture cut off on sides, how do i shrink picture to screen?

If model listed is correct the problem is in power supply or vertical or horizontal circuits.

If cut off on sides (horizontal) and bowed on sides it is a pincussion problem. IF short top and bottom a vertical issue--if both it is in the power supply.

Model listed is rather old and parts may not be available for it.

Need to reset v chip on ge tv 19gt243

Reset the password to '0000' by holding the VolumeDown and ChannelUp buttons on the TV (not remote) for about 5 seconds. Do this while viewing blocked content- you'll see the screen blink when it gets reset. Then go into the menu and disable/change the v-chip settings as desired using password '0000'. Hope this helps- -sv-

When Playing Halo 3... The Screen Shrinks Down...

kyleolver,
16:9 is the widescreen mode, the other size is 4:3 ratio which is what the game's native size, it is picture boxing by the plazma is showing the size as not to distort the image, to get the full screen picture, but make sure it's not the plazma's setting first - where it selects the size of the image, you may have the streched version on your normal play.
