Question about Tokina 12-24mm f/4 Pro DX for Nikon

1 Answer

I just bought the Tokina SD 12-24 F4 (IF) DX wide-angle lens for my D70, and it does not autofocus. I'm being told by the company I bought it from that i am past their 2 week return policy. Does this lens autofocus with the D70? Or is it not working properly?

Only the MkII version of this lens has an autofocus motor built in, the MkI relies on a motor in the body of some Nikon AF SLRs to autofocus. The D70 does not have an inbuilt AF drive motor, so if you have the MkI lens then you can only use it in manual focus mode on your camera.

Tokinka 11-16 dropped in water

Unless you have a lens collimator and other equipment needed to ensure proper alignment when reassembling the lens, take it to a good camera shop and have a properly trained and equipped professional clean it.

Can I use TOKINA lens 28mm-210 lens with this Nikon body or can I use with other NIKON body D 700?

Tokina makes their lenses with a variety of mounts. A lens with Canon mount, for example, won't fit onto a Nikon. Assuming you get the lens with a Nikon mount, then yes, you can use it with a D70 and with a D700.

I purchased a Tokina SD 11-16 F2.8(IF)DX from Japan. When I returned home and tried it on my Nikon 50 it gave me great results when I use without flash. The problem is that when I use it with my integrated...

The angle od the flash is probably not large enought or wide angle enought to cover the area the lens takes in. try using a softbox or diffuser attachment and makes exposure adjustments accordingly

Hello, I mounted 12-24 mm f4 Tokina lens on my canon 7D, but when I change the aperture from F4 to anything else, I get this error message"camera cannot communicate with the lens, clean lens...

Did you clean the lens contacts with a pencil eraser or with something else? If memory serves F4 is wide open on this lens, right?

Bought a Sigma DG 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 autofocus for my Nikon D40. When the lens is attached the settings get locked on MF. Is there anything I need to adjust to fix this problem? Charles

The Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG will not autofocus with the D40 since the lens does not feature an internal focusing motor (HSM). The D40 does not have an AF motor in the body and hence it can autofocus only with lenses featuring an integrated motor (eg. Nikon AF-S lenses, Sigma HSM lenses, Tokina DX II series etc). Unfortunately you can use the said lens only in MF mode.

I have a Tokina lens which says SD 35-200mm 1:4-5.6. The serial # is 8508870. What can you tell me about it, like what camera brand it fits?

Hello. The SD stands for Super Low Dispersion glass. It's a type of glass which is supposed to correct a lot of common light-transmission errors that naturally occur with optics used in this manner. All companies use "special" or "proprietary" methods of producing their respective high-quality lenses. The 35-200 tells you the focal length(how much zoom capability) you have. In other words, 35mm is considered a mild wide-angle lens while 200mm is approximately equal to a 10x pair of binoculars. Tokina makes lenses for a wide variety of cameras. There should also be a letter designation stamped on the rear of the lens mount. "O" for Olympus, "M" for Minolta, "N" for Nikon, "P" for Pentax, etc. Sometimes, there are 2 letters showing that the lens will fit cameras from 2 different companies.---Rick

It wont focus or take pictue

Hey harleymomma,
If the d70 is set to AF-S mode focus has to be achieved for the shutter to be allowed to take the photo. In some exposure modes the aperture must be locked down on the smallest aperture. I would also make sure the contacts are clean that allow communication between the body and the lens. Of course you need to make sure the body and the lens are set to autofocus. If none of this works I would have it looked at by an authorized service technician. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

Does Tokina-12-24mmF/4Pro DX complies with Nikon-D3 FX Format

Barrel distortion like you describe can always be a problem, especially at ultra-wide focal lengths like yours at 12mm. Some of this can be compensated for in software... Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Elements do a reasonable job, IMO, Bibble Pro (www.bibblelabs.com) does even better, especially with the 3rd party plugins like Percy perspective correction. These are things we have to live with when we have smaller sensors and ultra-wide angle lenses. There is nothing wrong with your lens, you will probably find that this distortion is minimized if you use a longer focal length (say 14mm) and/or stop down the lens a bit.. try f8, wide angle lenses have huge depth of field.

Lens hood BH-777

If such a thing exists, it would be on eBay or Froogle. However, that is so wide, I doubt a lens hood exists for it, as it would cause a lot of vignetting.
