Question about Philips Magnavox 51MP392H Rear Projection Television
We lost our power today for about 45 seconds and then NO TV!!! It is making a chirping sound when we turn it on. Any idea how to fix or how much this might cost us??? We just spent $300 last December when the color convergence went bad!! DON'T LEAVE THE TV SET RUNNING ALL THE TIME TO AVOID THAT PROBLEM!!! JUST AN FYI. EVEN IF YOU TURN IT OFF FOR 5-10 MINS WHILE YOU ARE OUT OF THE ROOM TO LET THE MIRRORS COOL DOWN IT WILL MAKE IT LAST LONGER!!!
The chirpping noise is significant, it means that the smps is loading down because of a direct short, possibly in the horz. output transistor. But that is most likely not all the problem or the damage. It wasn't losing the power that hurt it was getting it back and the power most likely spiked with enough of a surge to damage the LSB (Large Signal Board)... I've seen at least a half dozen of these in the last six months with the same scenerio and the only repair for this is to replace the LSB, unfortunately they are no longer available so the next best thing is to have it rebuilt.
The part number of the LSB is 313503712571 and at Vance Baldwin they're $353.00 with a $30.00 core plus shipping. You're better off having the shop tear it down and send the board directly into PTS Electronics. At least you've got a rough idea what you're facing..
Hope this helps!
