Dell 1720dn laser printer

I have a problem with paper skew. If the document to be printed has margin lines, these do not line up with the edge of the paper. I've cleaned the rollers and tried several types of paper. The problem still exists regardless of using paper tray or the manual feed.

Any ideas?

If the paper intake rollers are slick and grab paper on an angle, the feed causes the paper to move off center. Rubbing the rollers with a cloth and rubbing alcohol will clean them. Slightly rubbing the entire roller with a fine abrasive material can help with the paper path issue.

SOURCE: Dell 3100cn Printer will not print

I had to actually change the settings in Microsoft Word to resolve this problem.

If you go to page setup > paper source > there should be lists for "first page" and "other pages".

You can set this to "as per printer settings" and hopefully it should work.

SOURCE: Will not print

This usually happens when the paper tray is set to the incorrect paper size.
This printer determines what size paper is installed in it by the little "fingers" on the left side of the tray. When you adjust the paper tray, it determines how those fingers are positioned, and therefore, how the switch reads the paper size.

If the tray setting is off, even by one little click, then the machine may read the paper size as other then letter. If this happens, you send a letter size job to the printer, and it doesnt think it has letter size paper, it will tell you to put letter paper in the MPF feeder.

If the tray is definately set to letter, but the machine still thinks it does not have letter, then the tray or the switch that reads the tray is defective, but 99% of the time it is just the tray is not set correctly.

The MPF door can be open or closed 100% of the time with NO EFFECT on how the printer works.

Normal 0 Could have a corrupt driver.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and when the CD software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

My Dell 1720dn mono laser printer has not printed properly for some time - in fact it's dreadful! The letters and dark images have white vertical lines going through them, and some of the printing do

Change your toner cartridge. A properly working toner cartridge will never leave that much toner lying around. The white lines are an indication that either the toner is low, or the mag roller is defective.

Paper prints with lines in the middle

if ur toner is empty (you can feel how light or heavy it is) replace toner if not replace ur drum. ( drum is photo sensitive dont leave out for more than 15 minutes and u will proboly see lines on the drum if it is defective.

Dell 1720 laser printer shows paper jam after clearing jam and turning off and back on.

Hi,
some paper piece may be left in the printer.
Please check where was the leading edge of the paper when it was jammed. some sensors may have got stuck while removing paper. open the toner door remove the toner cartridge, just see all the sensor flags with fingers, refix toner and power on and try printing

Dell 1720 printer prints crooked i.e. left margin is not parallel to edge of paper

most likely you have a bad pick-up roller. it is inside the printer directly above the paper tray. this is one reason the paper would pull in an angle.

Why does my dell 1720dn print crooked?

The paper feed rollers are dirty and are pulling the paper in at an angle.
Could be from high % cotton paper or sticky label printing.
Clean the "pickup" rollers with eyeglass cleaner (not Windex).

The printer will not print on the half inch left edge of the page.

go to settings and change the left margin to 0.0. if in Word, then file->page setup and set the margins to what you want, left margin to 0.0 in your case.

Last print line of any doc printed with HP J6480 is cut off

I had been experiencing this problem intermittently for some time, so I finally got a hold of HP support and with the second support technician, I did get a solution that worked for the document I was printing at the time. When Printing, click Printing Preferences, click the Advanced tab, under the Printer Features section, set Minimize margins to On. Per the technician, 'The printable area of the product increases (bottom margin 12 mm to 3 mm), so that printing closer to the edge of the paper.'

Also, he recommended using the printer's Print Preview option under same the Printer Preferences window. When I did, I did in fact see the document's bottom paper being 'cutoff' with the old settings (i.e., Minimize margins Off), with it On, it look okay.

Hope this helps. Let me know if this works for you.

Lines along edge of paper

1 of 3 things I can think of off top of my head.
Since they are straight, I would suspect the transfer unit.
If it were just one color it would be that imaging unit.
Unlikely the fuser.
It doesn't sound line an issue called bar coding ,where the machine prints random lines. That would be a software issue.
Take the transfer unit out and inspect it for the marks.
I am assuming the streaks are on all colors correct?
If it isn't on the transfer belt, and on all colors check the fuser and see if its latched.
