I think you are asking for an EXPLANATION of why, when you put a bullet in a CHAMBER with your fingers the bolt won't close but when you put the bullet in the magazine, it goes in the chamber and the bolt locks DOWN fine. Is THAT a safety system?

ANSWER:
No, it is not a safety system. I am assuming that you are speaking of a standard BOLT ACTION rifle in a centerfire caliber configuration. The extractor, located near the bolt face is why it won't close. When you put the bullet into the chamber and then try to shut the bolt, the extractor has to jump over the rim of the shell casing. When you place the bullet in the magazine and then shut the bolt, the bolt face pushes the bullet up out of the magazine allowing the rim of the case to slide between the bolt face and the extractor claw and feed into the chamber. After firing or if you simply just want to remove the bullet from the chamber, pulling the bolt rearward, the extractor claw hangs onto the rim until the case hits an extractor bar causing the shell to fly out of the rifle.
A good question.
I would suggest a firearms training session. Check with the NRA or a local gun club for help.

Vx3i 4.5-14x50mm with cds turret tops out at about 450 yards. Turret gets tight. Shooting 300 win mag zeroed at 200 yards 180 grain boat tail loads. Am I maxing out my adjustment with the 1" tube?

Probably. You can use a 1913 rail with a forward incline to get more elevation. How far are you trying to shoot? 450 yards is further than most hunters will try to take game because of terminal ballistics and ability to precisely place the shot for a clean, humane kill. Target shooting is still getting close to out of range - bullet drop on a 300 win mag 180 grainer is pretty severe - at 500 yards it is falling 55 inches, and it gets progressively worse with heavier bullets and longer ranges.

At less than 300 yards this caliber will take down any large game animal in North America. You have chosen a very effective caliber, but all calibers have limitations.

I have a Ruger m77 MARK2 300 win mag it dents the bullets and scratches them every so often how do I just it so it won't do it???

Is it denting the projectile or the cartridge case?

Look for burrs or sharp edges in the magazine or on the ejector. Work the action slowly with dummy rounds so you can see the cartridge moving through your rifle's action - also look at the chamber mouth to see if there is a shard of metal here where it shouldn't be.

Reloading data useing somchem 385 in 308 norma magnum with 180g bullets

Start with a couple good loading manuals. The bullet and powder manufacturer web site all usually have loading
data. I like to start with the bullet mfg. Using data
from any " Keyboard Commando " Handloader without
proper research, comparison &. testing is a very dangerous thing

Just bought new dan Wesson lcp45 and magazine will not lock in mag well

Remove one round from the magazine and try it again. If it is still not retaining the mag, then you have a problem with the magazine catch. Also try a different magazine as there could be a problem with the mag catch notch in the magazine. In any case this is not a user repairable item. Take this to your local gunsmith or back to the dealer you purchased it from.

My Remington mod. 7400 rifle will eject unfired sells from the magazine but when rifle is fired the bolt moves all the way back, but spent cartridge stays completely in the magazine. how get pts?

Is it possible that your ejector does not have enough tension or material to grab the spent casing to pull out? The casing expands in the chamber after it is fired and will be difficult for the ejector to dispense the empty casing if it is not able to get under rim. Try this out first and see where it leads you. Cheers and good shooting!

I have a Ruger 556, I want to know if the Hornaday Black 75 grain will shoot well with a 1:8"RH twist and how many yards out will it take a deer out?

1:7 would be ideal, but your rifle may shoot this ammo very well.you will just have to try it out.bullet placement is critical with a small caliber,but,300 yards should be ok,if you put where it needs to be

Where can I find base pads about 3/8" thick for a S&W model 41 magazine?

Hello,
I was unable to locate a replacement base for the magazine, but used to when mag wells were added to 1911s, we would glue a piece of hard rubber or plastic to the base. You may have to shape it to match up. Easy fix if you have the materials.
