Most likely the problem is caused because the base is not screwed all the way on to the jar. This could be from just not turning it on all the way or it could loosen while running. Make sure the base is tightly closed before putting is into the power unit. To remove it you can lubricate the tabs with some vegetable oil and then force it. GE service suggested that. I have heard of two people joining forces to get it off without apparently damaging it but no guaranty's. If you have the reciept it should have a two year warranty, at least mine does.
