Press the "Power" key to wake the Kindle from Sleep mode. The Password prompt displays.
Step 2 Type your best guess at the password into the Password input box. Retype password guesses a total of four times. After the fourth incorrect password entry, the Reset dialog box opens asking if you would like to reset the Kindle Fire.
Step 3 Tap "OK Reset" to reset the device to original factory settings.
Connect the Kindle Fire to a wireless network and re-register the device with your Amazon account.

Yes, Kindle is a name used for all the Amazon tablets and e-readers.
Kindle 2, 4, 5, 7, 8
Kindle paperwhite (1,2,3 generation)
Kindle FIre 7
Kindle Fire HD 6, 7, 8, 8.9, 10
Kindle Fire HDX 7, 8.9
And I probably missed some in here.

if not charging reset is not going to solve it and if battery failure cant restart check charger and ports if good most likely battery failed
