I have a Sony Bravia KDL-40V5100. When I turn it on, I have audio and the backlights turn on for a short period of time. After about 15-20 seconds, the tv turns off.

If I immediately turn it on again, sometimes it will stay powered on with the backlights lit, but again no picture. Sometimes it will do the same thing as before and turn off 15-20 seconds later. Can you tell me what board(s) are the most likely cause? Thank you very much in advance, Tom

SOURCE: I have a Sony Bravia KDL-40V5100 that won't turn on. Plug in, solid green light, power on, no click, no display or audio. Turn off, click, solid green light returns. Replace power supply board?

Fault at its main digital board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. http://electro-medical.blogspot.com/
In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.
Before going further; try a hard reset first. If it does not help you, replace the main digital board. There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; visit the site linked here.

Sony KDL-40V5100 Switches off by itself

Sorry to say but it sounds like your power supply is bad, although it is possible it is some other components in the TV because turning it off allows all diodes etc to power down completely. Unfortunately after a bit it happens again which leads me to believe again power trouble.

Volume control on sony bravia kdl-40v5100 is not working correctly. used to be fine around setting of 30 now at 50 to hear it

If you are using a Motorola cablebox, you may need to change the Audio in the cablebox to Heavy Compression. You can find this in the cablebox Menu, Setting, Audio. Set the audio to Advanced then change the compression.

3. This will require some troubleshooting by a qualified tech.
4. To make sure, try connecting another properly working LCD TV to the cable box or DVR an check. If you get a picture and sound properly it is the TV.
