You have to test the heating element with an ohm-meter. It should read very low ohms. If the element seems ok, you have to test the controller to see if it is powering the element (probably should be 120 volts)

SOURCE: it fills with water and then continues to wash but
Problem is either a bad controller board or bad heating element.
You will need to know how to diagnostic service work using a volt-ohm meter, and be mechanically handy if you want to diagnose and repair.

Hi Peter Gumbrell - Often when the dishwasher door does not lock, it is because the of door lock assembly. The door lock or latch may either be faulty or damaged. If I was in your position, I would personally recommend consulting a professional to accurately diagnose the dishwasher to determine the root cause to reduce the risk of unnecessary parts.
Hi - If the unit is not drying nor cleaning properly, there are two main things to check first. Is the incoming water temperature at least 120F (49C)? If not, I strongly suggest that the temperature be adjusted on your water heater. Are you using rinse aid? Use a rinse agent to increase drying performance and using Sanitize or Air Dry Off mode also helps improve drying. If any proves to be ineffective, contact a professional to move forward accurately.
Hi,
I have an older dishwasher also and recently my wife also complained about it not cleaning right... so me being the man I am tried in vain to clean the things... Bought new spray arms online and installed them in minutes...now the thing works like new... However I have also found that if the heating element goes bad then that also can mess things up bad... So I would buy new spray arms, and also check out the heating element to make sure it is working... Here is a tip that will help you with the online buying...
