SOURCE: kenwood kdc3028 it's asking for a code??

At least its asking for a code, some older kenwoods and sonys had a remote fob arrangement that you had to point at the unit to get it to restart. If it is an aftermarket unit, the code should be in the manuals.

Common Kenwood Security Codes
Many Kenwood radios are configured with the same security codes:

KCAR - This seems to be a "backdoor" to some Kenwood models.
3051 - This is the security code which is printed in the manual of many Kenwood models.
1234 - This is a security code commonly chosen by Kenwood owners.
Entering Your Kenwood Security Code
If the car battery fails or is disconnected, the Kenwood will ask for the security code.

The procedure to enter your security code differs on various models of Kenwood car stereos. Here are three of the more common procedures:

Type 1
During the code request mode, while holding the DISP key depressed, press and hold the Volume UP or DOWN key for 3 seconds until the "..." display disappears.
Enter the security code using your Kenwood remote.
Type 2
Press the "Auto" button and "Track up" on the face of radio at the same time until the four dash lines disappear.
Enter the security code using your Kenwood remote.
Type 3: Model# DPX-4020 and DPX-4030
Press and hold the 1 then the 6 preset keys until the display shows the letter 'C'.
Enter the security code using your Kenwood remote.
Entering Letters on your Kenwood Remote
To enter a letter using your Kenwood remote, press a button once for the first letter, twice for the second letter, and three times for the third letter -- then press the Track Up or Next Track key to send the letter.

To send the letter 'A', press the 2 key once and then press the Track Up key. To send the letter 'B', press the 2 key twice and then press the Track up key.

Finally, when you are done entering all of the letters, press and hold the Track Up button for 3 seconds.

The key sequence to enter the security code KCAR is:

5
5
Track Up
2
2
2
Track Up
2
Track Up
7
7
Track Up
Your Kenwood should then enter tuner mode.

A Security Code Bug in some Kenwoods
There is a reported bug in the security code handling of some Kenwood stereos. In models with thie bug, the security code is stored incorrectly. The workaround is to enter the wrong security code.

In models with this bug, you have to decrement the third character of the security code by one. If your security code was 1111, you would enter your security code as 1101. If your security code was 9999, you would enter 9989.

SOURCE: Need Unlock Code for Kenwood MP235 car stereo

Look for a really small hole in the face plate. Put a tip of a pen into it. Press it in and then it should turn on. If this doesn't work, take it to a place that installs them, they'll help....Usually for free....

I bought a second hand vehicle with a kenwood car audio,it needs a code to open it.

When you disconnect your battery and then reconnect itagain, it disables the radio. This is an anti-theft protection for your carradio.
The enable your radio the activation code is in your vehicle owner's manual. Ifyou do not have this code you need to go to your vehicle manufacturer's servicecentre and get them to enter this code for you.

My work van stereo is now locked and needs a code after I had to change the van Do you know it or who I could ask who might know what to do It is a Kenwood and on the front panel it has KDC-5016

All original car radios have their own unique security codes.

Assuming your radio is the original for this vehicle you simply take your vehicle ownership and registration papers to a Ford workshop they can get the code from the Ford computer network on the spot.

If the code does not work then it means that this radio is not the original for your car as it would have been replaced with them radio model.

If this Kenwood is an after vehicle purchase, you may need to contact Kenwood Car Audio.
Or get Kenwood's contact details through your local car audio dealer.

Kenwood KDC 4019

You can clear the code it you have the remote for it. No remote means no way to use the radio. If you know of a friend who has a Kenwood car stereo and the remote, you should be able to clear it yourself. It does not need to be the remote from that model of Kenwood. Most of the Kenwood remotes are the same for all the different models. I use the same remote for all models of Kenwoods that I get at my service center. You could always buy a remote, but if the problem is more than just clearing the code you would be wasting more money. I work at an authorized Kenwood service center and have over 18 years of experience with them. I have seen on rare occasions when the radio needs the code cleared, it has a problem with the microproccessor or the IC that is used for the security code. As I said, it is rare, but it can happen and may be safer to not spend anymore money on a new remote.

If you decide you want to buy a remote or you can borrow one from somebody, let me know and I will send you a link to a place you can buy one if needed, and then I will also post the procedure you need to use for clearing the code.

If the Kenwood dealer you took the radio to is a retail outlet and not a authorized Kenwood repair center, it is likely that they do not know the proper procedure for clearing the code. Kenwood does not tell their retail outlets how to do this procedure.

If you need me to post the procedure, please wait on rating me until I post for you.

Let me know how you want to do this.

Kenwood radio is locked

Go to your local dealership for your make of car. ask them if they do radio/cd player re-codes.. if not they should be able to put you in touch with someone who does as they use them all the time to re-code their trade in car sound systems... it usually costs about 15 quid or so...hope this helps..cheers.
