Hi i ave a miele upright red vacuum, i just replaced the cord three days ago. its really easy. behind where the handle connects to the body of vacuum, in other words where the metal meets plastic there is a small opening its basically to undo the top part of handle from the body, push in the plastic small piece and at same time pull up on handle once it comes of you will have the whole cord seperated from vacuum, unfortunately to get a replacement you need to buy the whole top handle part because it is connected to the cord

Rickhan,
I would recommend taking it to a Miele dealer and let them repair it. It can get rather tricky trying to put those back together. I speak from experience and I work at a Miele dealer and I leave them for the other repair tech.

Outer power cord has perished near the handle.

Best to have the power cord replaced. Take it to an appliance repair service and have the work done. Most cords have strain reliefs that you cannot replace, and when missing you problems will just reoccur faster.

S5830 canister vacuum

Do you mean S5380?
Phone local vacuum repairers and ask for estimates. The power cord is only fairly cheap. I would have thought that even with expensive labour it should cost less than 100$. He's probably trying to cover himself in case its something else. Have you contacted Miele? it is worth asking for a price if they'll give you one
Miele Inc Anything Else is Compromise
As far as replacing the cord yourself, it's not as simple as just connecting it, i think it has to be put on a tensioned drum.

Hi,

How to take apart to replace power cord

Hello,

In order to access the cord on the Miele S183 upright, you'll need to first remove the handle from the vacuum cleaner. There is a large screw that holds the handle in place that is located under neath of the lower cord wrap hook. Simply remove this screw, and slide the off the vacuum by pushing the handle towards the back of the machine.

Once you have the handle removed, now ope the bag door as if you were going to replace the vacuum bag. You'll see two screws directly above where the bag fits inside of the machine. These two screws will open up the switch and cord housing and give you access to the electrical cord.

You'll see that there are two screws that secure the cord as it comes into the vacuum from the back. Remove both of these screws so that the cord is no longer secured. I think the easiest way to replace this cord is to simply cut the cord (MAKE SURE THE VACUUM IS UNPLUGGED) so that there is about 4-5 inches of the cord jacket (rubber coating around the cord) remaining. You may now just pull this cord jacket off of the cord, along with the paper insulation so you have two bare wires of the old cord. Now take your new cord and push it into the back of the vacuum so that it comes through the switch housing. Instead of having to re-secure the cord with the two screws, I've found that if you tie a small knot in the cord, this works just as well at preventing the cord from pulling through the back of the vacuum.

Simply strip the wires that are left from the old cord, and simply wire nut the new cord after tying a knot (or re-securing it with the two screws), and reassemble the vacuum cleaner. Test the vacuum only after putting the switch housing cover back into place.

Miele S514 Solaris Electro - won't turn on

I don't have the exact same model as you guys, but maybe my situation is similar to yours. My Miele Silver moon model won't turn on one day. I took it to a Miele authorized repair shop ( they all offer free estimate on finding the problem first, then they will tell you what the repair cost will be). They said my vacuum cord reel shim was damaged. The damage was caused by over stretching the cord while I vacuumed. According to them the shim is kind of like a clip that holds the cord inside the vacuum. When the shim is damaged, the cords are pulled apart and electricity can no longer pass through. That would expalin why it won't turn on. The repair cost was not too bad, it costed forty-six dollars. I hope this helps.
