Many nailers and staplers do not have an adjustment for how deep the nail will drive. Usually, the nail is driven too deep so one must use shims under the nose to space up from the work. However, in your case the nail is not driven deep enough. This is usually caused by a missing tip. To check if your tip is broken off, try dry firing (no nails) the gun into soft wood. The driver should leave a divot indicating that the tip is good. Removing the rubber protector on the safety foot will slightly increase depth as well as filing the thickness of the safety will get you closer to the work. Finally, the safety foot is what activates or trips the gun. It pushes on a button to fire so if the safety is too long, it will activate the firing mech before the nose is all the way down against the work. Good luck

SOURCE: Bostitch nail gun loss of pressure, won't fire nail

Hello. I can help you. The nail gun you have uses 18 gauge brads. I would use only original Bostitch 18 gauge.

The one MM of difference you mention is the reason why you do not have the pressure you did have. Get rid of those 31MM brads and get the 18 gauge. Home Depot carries the Bostitch line. I would go there or to homedepot.com

SOURCE: Bostitch RN46 will not fire nail, only releases

Gun will not fire if air is leaking past orings in head /headvalve or safety /trigger is not pushing trigger pin all the way into trigger valve. Test: Remove trigger to expose trigger valve pin. Remove nails. Place nose of gun against thick rubber mat or coiled rubber hose to absorb blow of driver. Very quickly and deliberately press trigger pin all the way in. If gun fires, safety foo or trigger is not pushing trigger pin all the way in. Make adjustments or replace worn parts. If gun still does not fire, remove head and pull out headvalve. Apply lots of silicone paste lube on the orings and the surface of the head where orings make contact. Reinstall head and test as above. If the gun fires then orings were leaking. Replace orings and sand any scratches on body of cap with very fine sand paper. Parts are at www.toolpartsdirect.com Good luck

Fires first nail will not fire second nail

Ez test. With nails removed, and door open driver should be at top of cylinder. If driver is down replace piston oring. If driver is up, lightly strike nose of gun against softwood. The driver should stay at top. If driver drops with light tap replace piston oring. If driver stays at top dry fire the nailer against softwood. The driver should hit the softwood leaving a mark and return to top. If driver stays down or does not travel all the way up pull the cylinder and make sure checkband is installed. Checkband is oring or rubber band covering series of holes on lower part of cylinder. Good luck

Most likely you have a broken / chipped driver blade - you could also have a bent lower probe.

What preasure does a rockworth framing nailer need to operate

You did not provide brand, but this broad spectrum will give you some indication. Framers operate, depending on the brand, on 45psi (2.5bar) to 120psi (8.3bar).

Setting depend on several variables, that is thickness of the timber, hardness of the timber, lenght of the nail, to certain extend hardness and diameter of the nail..

You know that pressure is correct to material when nail head is flushed with surface of the timber or very slightly below.

If nail stick above the surface, you need increase pressure (in stages! do not jump from one extremity to another!), till you achieve flash suurface.

if nail takes "dive" and is more than thickness of the head below the surface, you need to decrease the pressure till you achieve this "golden" level of flush or just below the surface.

Sometime there is necessity to drive nails into totally unsuitable surface of timber (for example bamboo, yes, I know it sound ridiculous, but not everyone live in north america...), it is then good idea to spray nails with teflon or silicone oils, This treatment allow penetration even in bamboo, mahagony and other timbers harder than 12 in Jenkins scale without riping them apart.

Albeit if I see you firing nailer in my workshop into mahagony I will fire you... :-)

Hope this short intro into the noble art of framing and pneumatic nailer world will help you. Do not forget wearing protective glassess or face shield while using nailer! You have only two eyes and there is no spares...

Gun will not drive pins flush with wood. Wood is

What is your air pressure setting. A finish nailer such as this usually requires 70 lbs to drive flush. Adjust air to this value and test fire in scrap. Keep adjusting air presure until nail drives flush.
