SOURCE: cant find on how to
It would be on the box and possibly on your receipt/contract from purchase. You can contact your provider to see if they keep that information, but most don't. You should let them know that your phone has been stolen so your account can be frozen. Otherwise you'll be responsible for any calls made. Your provider may also be able to tell you of any calls that have been made while the phone has been out of your control which is a good start to finding the thief. You should make a report with your local police department and supply them any information your provider is able to give you.
Hope this helps

SOURCE: how do I track my stolen Samsung galaxy S4 with its imei number
you can go to this link: http://www.trackimei.com/ and put your IMEI number in there you might be able to find out
or If you were using and Android based phone, you would have enabled "Find my mobile" in settings>device>security, GPS must also be on
If it was an Apple, there is "Find my phone" after you login to iCloud
If you didn't register to and enable some sort of Anti-Theft service or have it insured, you are at a loss.
Even with an IMEI, Police can only track the phone if they were physically looking for it and checking the number on them. This is the only way the IMEI is used... physical checking
Contact your service provider to report your phone stolen, so you don't end up getting billed if the lost phone is being used by someone. Ask for required paperwork of your phone/contract and report it to the police, who will put out an APB for it
Go to PlayStore and install Teamviewer, once the device is connected to internet the app will install it self. If it ask for any info for the set up, go head. Now download Teamviewer in your computer and use the same log in information from the Teamviewer that was downloaded from the PlayStore. With this app you can have remote control over your lost device even with GPS off. I hope it works and good luck.

Once stolen will always be stolen. The only person that can active the phone is the rightful owner.
