Charge the start battery and if that doesn't fix it then replace the battery

The storage battery of diesel generator set is the power supply equipment to start the motor. 2002 jetta wont start it makes a clicking sound

starter motor fault or battery fault. battery can run windows etc when flat or damaged starting engine uses alot of amps. 40- 60 times more than a window motor.

Generator will not stay running

The toggle switch automatically resets all faults when it is turned to the off position. I would turn the toggle switch off, turn off the breaker on the generator and then turn off all the loads in the house except a few lights. Turn the generator breaker back on, then turn the toggle switch back to automatic. If it starts and stays running, you were overloading the generator. Turn on other loads slowly and keep track of what is on so you don't overload it again. If it still does not stay on, you may have a problem with the panel. Let me know what happens.

your battery is dead. The B&S generators take an AGM style battery, you can get one at Interstate. Use the 35 amp-hr model.

How to fix surging on yamaha 2400 generator

If may be a partly blocked main jet ( Check by slowly closing the choke), if it the hunting clears out as you slowly close it it prob blocked main or pilot jet...
If the unit hunts (flutter)at 1/4 through 3/4 load, the governor damper spring on the throttle shaft under the stepper motor needs one more turn.. only after you've checker the carby..Only one turn or you will damage the stepper motor....one a few of these....

Solenoid clicks will not engage 4000KW Onan

4000 kW is a very big generator. I asume that your is 4000W = 4 kW.
If - with electrical start it should be MicroQuiet 4000.
Never mind by all types of electricaly started engines this will mean:

If by "not engage" you mean that solenoid only clicks, but neither the starter motor is turning, nor the bendix wheel is engaged to wlywheel. This may mean that battery voltage is low, in order to engage the bendix and make its power contact, or the bendix is mechanicaly blocked.
If by "not engage" you mean that solenoid clicks, the starter motor is not turning, but the bendix wheel is engaged to wlywheel. This may mean that the bendix relay power contacts are bad or starter motor collector or brushes are bad.
If by "not engage" you mean that solenoid clicks, the starter motor is turning with a scratching sound, the bendix wheel is partially or not engaged to wlywheel. This may mean that the bendix throw out lever is bent or broken, or the wheels on bendix and flywheel are worn out..

Initially, is there an alarm/immobilizer? If yes is it active/enabled?

Offhand, by "...wont start..." do you mean starter motor will not spin or engine turns but will not fire?

Starter motor will not turn:

press start button, check for +12 on green/black wire from starter switch to starter relay;
if there is, is there a clicking sound?
if there is a clicking sound, short temporarily the 2 big terminals of the starter relay;
if starter motor turns, starter relay faulty;
if not, starter motor needs looking into particularly the carbon brushes and the commutator segments.

Starter motor turns but no spark:

check/replace sparkplug;
check pulsating voltage on green/white wire going to ignition coil coming from the ignition control unit;
check pulsating low AC voltage on green wire going to ignition control unit coming from the pulse generator coil;
check presence of IGN +12 leading to the ignition control unit.
