No
starters do not charge batteries . they just start engines
have the voltage regulator checked and the charging circuit checked for broken wires , loose terminals

SOURCE: I OWN A 2006 TROY BUILT HORSE 23HP. THE PROBLEM IS

You either have a problem with the wiring and its not allowing the voltage to flow freely to the start or there is some type of internal engine failure that is causing the valves to stay closed.

SOURCE: Briggs and Stratton Vanguard 23Hp starter issues

take the starter off and give the bendix a realy good clean up and then splash some oil on it,,,they get very dry and sticky at times,,,you can test the starter uasing some jump leads stand on it though, dont hold it in your hands as it will spin out of your grip
hook the black lead to the caseing and tuch the red lead on the starter battery stud,,,it should spin up and strow the bendix out as soon as you take the lead off the bendix should slid back in if it dont oil it till dose also check the starter relay it could be sticking on holding the starter in

Testimonial: "Thank you miket756. Brand new starter that 100% bench checked. Cannot understand what problem is, I appreciate your time and efforts. Tim"

What type of oil and how much should I use in VanGuard 23hp V.Twin. Model # 386777. I also need a manual for this mower, it is a zero turn Simplicity.

See chart below for oil recommendations for Vanguard engines. It varies with temperature of air. I would use Synthetic 5W-30W year round.

My 23hp Vanguard motor stalls every so often, To restart it I have to turn the battery isolator switch off then back on again before it will restart. could it be to do with the oil pressure switch

stalling
yes oil pressure switch's /modules are wired in to the spark systems of small plant motors as motor protection

i cant see one listed as a part for sale for 23 hp vanguard briggs
or mentioned in the user manual
386447 3079

if oil level is ok and oil pressure switch isnt the problem

check the governor adjustment
or adjust the idle

My Briggs 23hp ran out of fuel is there a reset switch as the engin will not start anymore.

I would be checking low oil level as there is a low level oil switch that switches off when you run low on engine oil.

I have a Kohler 12.5 KW marine generator on my houseboat that has a problem I was hoping you could help me with. Specs: Kohler 12.5 KW 79 CID 23HP Mfg date 9-10-96 Gen Engine Serial # 06919 L-29-R

there are some magnets behind the flywheel to cause the battery charging system to recharge the batt. sometimes they come unbonded/loose from the flywheel and cause the engine to become hard to turn. I would start there first.

Ihave a vanguard 20 hp v twin on my snapper mower you turn the key and get like a kluk sounds like its coming from starter

Does it do it every time? First try and turn your engine by hand counter clockwise and try to start..sometimes the engine stops on a compression stroke and Is Under too much pressure for the initial start,..happened to my cub cadet laast week...,,if it turns and still gets a click...test or charge your battery..if it is ok you either have a bad solenoid or starter...first find the solenoid and croosing the two big post..it should spin the engine..if it spins it is your solenoid if not the starter is bad...not a hard job for either...both can be purchased at your local mower place...giid luck

Engine will not start

Try taping on the starter while you are turning they key. The starter may be bad or drawing to much power. If the engine doesn't roll over use a voltmeter to check and see the ansers to these questions. Is power at the starter, is the solenoid good is it providing power to the starter, is the key ignition providing power to the solenoid

Running a Vanguard 23 Hp on my Mud Motor.\r\nQ1: developing a hard starting problem, seems like starting on 1 cylinder, after the first tank of fuel this fall. Fuel filter, spark, and plug OK. Looking at...

It sounds like your valves are out of adjustment. Your starter will bog down if it is out of adjustment and stop at the compression release.
So just take your valve covers off and set your valve lash to
.006 intake
.008 exhaust
