This unit was not highly rated about 50/50. if you are not married to it, I would toss it and buy different brand.

SOURCE: breville ESP8XL Espresso Machine Cafe Roma leaking.. help please..

We had that happen and it was a crack in the black ring that holds the filter. Breville could not supply us with one but we found an OEM part in aluminum from http://www.vancouverwireedm.com/caferomadiyt.htm. We received it 1 week after ordering. It was pretty easy to replace. Our machine works fine now.

SOURCE: Starbuck's Barista steam wand leak

remove the cover from the machine, loosen the allen screw that fastens the steam knob to the shaft, move it slightly and retighten to allow the knob to close the valve a bit more. I have had to do this a few times in the 9 years I've had my machine as either the knob loosens or the valve threads wear a bit.

SOURCE: how do I get my breville cafe roma espresso

Same thing happened to me and I had to push down on the water tank a little more firmly. It looked like it was seated okay but I guess it needed to be pushed down more to open the little spring-loaded opening at the bottom.

have you tried to use the sharp pin and try to dislodge coffee grind from the filter cup? You will need to remove it from the filter holder to gain access.

Breville brew head seals are rather difficult to locate, but I personally stock them for ESP8XL & 800ESXL machines and sell them at a reasonable cost. I sell lots of new and used parts for various coffee machines, but specialize in Krups and some Breville. If interested in purchasing a Breville brew head seal, contact me at [email protected] and I'll make arrangements. I accept Paypal to make the transaction safe and secure for us both.

My understanding is that this is normal with units like the ESP8XL which use a pressurized portafilter. Non-pressurized units will leave a dry puck of used grounds.
