Question about Rival Kitchen Appliances - Others

My cousin has a rival seal-a-meal vacuum food storage System and it doesn't seem to vacuum the air out before it deals it..have any answers..out sounds like it sucking the air out but it's not

For a vacuum machine to work the valves have to be functional
as the piston/diaphragm moves back to suck out the air there is a one way valve that shuts of as the piston / diaphragm moves back for another cycle
it is possible that there is food particles stuck under that valve thereby stopping it from sealing off

Take apart and see if wires are connected That is what was wrong w/ mine. Soldered wire now works fine.

Bag will not seal

• Check that there aren't any gaps, folds, wrinkles or holes in pre-sealed edges.

• Moisture of foods with high liquid content will prevent the bag from

sealing properly. Cut bag open and wipe top inside of bag and reseal.

• Make sure you've placed the bag in the proper place. When making a

bag from a roll, make sure end of cut piece is on Sealing Strip, NOT over

Lower Sealing Gasket or in Drip Tray.

• Make sure you give the appliance time to cool down. Wait at least 20
seconds between seals.

If all the above have been verified and the machine will still not pull a vacuum, you will need to replace the upper and lower gaskets.

There is air leaking in somewhere. Make sure there are no wrinkles in the bag at the sealer location. Also, make sure the seal on the bottom of the bag is complete or the machine will simply suck air from the bottom and out the top. Make sure there are no food particles stuck in or to the sealer mechanism.

I don't have a Rival but have a Foodsaver vacuum sealer. If I have trouble getting the air to vacuum out, I remove the black foam seal from the machine, run it under water for a minute, shake off the excess, and reseat the seal. For some reason, the water helps create a seal. It also helps remove food that may have leaked onto the foam seal.

If the wire that heats and melts the bag is damaged, it may not be sealing the bag completely.

The seal a meal will vaccume but it will not seal. It just keeps running the vaccum process. Do I need to replace my appliance? Or is this a fixable problem

You can fix it yourself for $3 or so if you look for the thermal cutoff (a resister looking device) You can get this at a quality electronics supply. If you just cross the cutoff it will work but could be a fire hazard.

I've been told you can order replacement gaskets from Rival, about $6/set 1-800-557-4825 and $8 shipping, so may want to stock up (prices were quoted from 2012)

When vacuuming out air, the liquid is vacuumed, inside of the bag where it seals is wet, and it won't seal.

Try placing a folded paper towel in the bag between the item and the area of the seal
The towel will absorb the liquid allowing the bag to seal but keeping the liquid in the bag
