Make sure your Xbox 360 is up to date on updates. If it is not updated it probably will not read or play the games. GO to System Updates anbd make sure you are updated.
Open tray is a laser fault normally starts by the console struggling to read discs.
You can have this repaired for you by places such as Xbox-Reviver or LTrepairs i wouldnt recomend changing a laser yourself as they are very delicate and it's not an easy diy repair.
The Xbox Disk Drive, which you put the games and whatnot into have a tendency to wear out and in essence, refuse to spin properly meaning the game is not being read and is mistaken for a DVD disk, so when the console realises it isn't, it doesn't know what to do.
There isn't much you can do about this. The easiest thing would be to get it repaired, or you could try your own hand at it. You can find 360 HDD's on ebay for example, or you can keep trying the disk multiple times before it starts working.

You can also try to sell it that way it's not a major problem for someone who feels comfortable with the inside machine.
This happens WAAAAAAY to often with these consoles.
The culprit is a magnet inside of the dvd player that holds the tray from opening because the magnet is slightly too strong. The magnet is used to hold the dvd/games in place while they spin. The way to fix this is to buy a package of those hole reinforcment rings that you use to fix the holes in paper to keep inside of a binder. at staples they are called portable reinforcments.
What you have to do is place one or two fo these ring stickers over the magnet inside of the dvd player. If you open the dvd player you will know exactly what I'm talking about.
