To use a USB flash drive with the LG 42LD550, the drive must be formatted as a FAT32 or NTFS device. The drive should be 32GB or less. Not all USB devices will be recognized - this can be a driver issue. (I've had a few devices that didn't take a USB flash drive, if the drive required a driver to run under Windows 98.) If you use an external drive (portable or desktop), keep the drive capacity to 1 TB or less.

Next what files are on the drive? This TV will only recognize JPG images, HD DivX (.avi and .divx) movies and MP3 audio files. The not all codecs may be supported with these formats. Some people report losing the ability to play movies after certain firmware updates. If the drive has too many folders or files in a folder, it may not work. (This will happen sooner with the FAT32 format.) See page 96 of the user manual to see the file format limits on the USB port. The manual is available on the TV support page: https://www.lg.com/us/support-product/lg-42LD550 . The current link to the manual is http://gscs-b2c.lge.com/downloadFile?fileId=oqXZ71Wn8YXJ3OKzy9leAw .

I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Toshiba 500 GB External Hard drive cant be detected by windows xp

yes you could simply format the harddrive in Fat32 using your macos that would be the best solution but don`t forget to backup your data by copy pasting the files on your mac or something else and after that to move them on the external hdd again to be available on the windows machine

SOURCE: My lg lcd tv has a usb port but only recognises

You need to activate it first, here are the steps:

1. Press the enter(OK) both on the remote and the TV at the same time...hold for about 5 seconds
2. Password - 0000
3. Go to tool option 3
4. Change Jpeg to 1
5. Change Divx to SD or HD
6. Exit and try it out.
You will notice that now there are 8 inputs in the option list instead of 6 - Including a USB input.

Hope this helps

Some TV models have a USB port so that users could play videos and movies from USB on TV. You can try the following steps:

2. Copy your movies to USB drive and then disconnect your USB drive from computer.
3. Connect the USB device to the Sony TV USB port. Turn on the connected USB device if necessary.

Lexar jump drive

Its the format of your flashdrive that is not compatable with the tv. Insert the flashdrive into the computer and reformat it into a format that your tv will accept. Google which formats your tv will work with and format the flash disk to that format.

Hello nursedoreen,
It all depends on your TV. Not all tv's can play movies, and even the ones that can play movie files, it cannot play every type of format. Try changing your file format. Try avi, mkv, mp4 and so on. I hope this helps, give me a feedback if it doesn't. good luck.

I can not play the video on my lg tv from usb or rgb pc

What happens when you try to play it? Did you try accessing the USB drive through input and then select Movies? Note that cetain formats such as 3GP will not play. The video file needs to be in AVI or MPEG based formats for the tv to play it.
