I have two Panasonic cameras tz70 and a f330. My f330 is a new one At first the numbers on the photos when copied over to the laptop had a P in front of the photo number, but when trying to organise quite a lot of them into a travel photo book. I notice that the P has been replaced by an underscore. I do it know why this is, if it's the card the camera or the laptop. Any answers or solutions, please. Pat

You can recover the missing pics off your card get, there are some image recovery
programs available on the net and most camera shops will offer a card
recovery service but dont format before you get pics recovered.
Not formatting a card is bad. They need to be formatted on a regular basis because deleting images from card does not remove them and the next image taken only overwrites the old ones.

First, if you want those photos, dont do anything else to the card yet. Use a utilty like RECUVA (you'll find it at http://www.filehippo.com/download_recuva/) it is good at retrieving images from cards in these situations. and better yet its free.
When you are satisfied that all is lost or found...you'll again need to format the card with the camera not the computer. I would also check with the cameras manufacturer website. look for a Firmware update. if one is posted get that and apply it. Some Flash memery cards have advanded features that cameras need updating to handle.
Finally if this keep happending try a new memory card, flash can have defects.
Good luck!

regarding the use, you have to check if you are using the right memory card for your camera.
you can only use 2GB sd card or 4gb sdhc card.
try this and if you still have an error message. you better send the camera for service.

Please see the following blog article, as it describes the use of a card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue:

I was thinking along the lines of some kind of fungus if you were in a warm, humid climate.
