SOURCE: Aux Input on Back?
Aux input on the back depends if there was a aux button on the front and the brand of deck. If one is there then you dont need Best Buy to do it. removing the deck is not as hard as people make it seem. The best way to remove the deck to check is find a manual for removal; exp: chiltons, hayne or even get it from crutchfield. Be careful though, some decks may have the aux button and a 3.5mm jack in the back but the jack is sometimes used for a remote. So get the mauals for the deck you have and the manual for removal.

If Yamaha says that you need a phono pre-amp, you need it. it does not have to be a Yamaha pre-amp. just a generic pre-amp will fill the bill. Radio Shack or many places online have very reasonable(costwise) preamps.

Is the TV a Samsung as well? Check both devices to see if you have "Anynet+" is on, if so turn it off.
SOURCE: connect a monitor to a yahama HTR 5660 receiver
"trying to connect multiple devices to a yamaha receiver if I am using an S video to connect the tv (monitor) to the receiver do I plug it into the monitor OUT s video or would it be Input not output?" Input on the Monitor from Video Out on the Yamaha.
"if I am only using the monitor for video and not sound do I still need to plug in the audio cords or do i leave them out " - Presumably the monitor doesn't have speakers or audio connections, so it's a non-issue. Your video sources should have audio routed to the receiver. If the monitor has speakers I would also send 2-channel analog audio to it from, say, the cable/satellite box, so you could hear the weather or other lo-fi video without turning on the Yamaha.

You need a cable with RCA plugs on one end (to go into the radio) and a mini headphone plug to plug into your phone.
