SOURCE: is there a better Air Purifier than the defender

Hi lahgolf,

I used to work with a Filter Queen distributor, have the vacuum I bought when I was there (and another I bought on eBay) - - excellent machines, so I would expect the Defender to be a similarly good-quality machine.

I also like the Alpine/EcoQuest purifiers that use a combination of ionization and oxidation. I realize that the HMI (Defender) manufacturer warns against these types of purifiers (not unexpected given that they are the competition). What HMI doesn't tell you is that clean, unpolluted outdoor air contains a low background level of O3 (ozone, aka activated oxygen), ranging from 15-40 ppb (thats parts-per-billion - very small amounts). It is this level that the purifier should used to approximate, not the much higher levels that are associated with air pollution and physical ill-effects (normally registered at levels over 100 ppb). Sunlight hitting O2 in the air causes low levels of O3 to be produced; sunlight hitting smog causes higher levels that are associated with pollution and health reactions to O3; it's the O3 that also acts to oxidize/break down air pollution naturally. The O3 isn't a pollutant in itself; it is a reaction to pollution, and an easy way to gauge the level of pollution because of the known chemistry of this reaction.

Full disclosure: I am, and have been an EcoQuest dealer since shortly after I parted ways with HMI in 1995. I can't sell you anything without violating FixYa's terms and conditions, so we won't go there.

My recommendation as someone with lifelong dust allergies (one reason I got into the business) is that the optimal solution is a combination of active high-performance filtration in a vacuuming system, and active ionization (induces a static charge on particulate air pollution, much like throwing a magnet into a box of loose hardware), causing them to stick together and fall out of the air, and also be more effectively trapped by high-performance filters such as found in the Defender or the vacuum cleaning system. My only reservation about the Defender is that it only cleans one room effectively; the EcoQuest units can generate ionization throughout an entire house (typcially 50-60' radius through walls). I'd expect the vacuum system to be used throughout your home.

One other thing - filters are rated by the weight of what they capture, not particle count. If all the particulate pollution was represented by a bucket filled with everything from fist-sized rocks, to gravel, to marbles, pebbles and fine sand, a filter that trapped 99.7% of that dirt would be getting the big stuff, not the little sand particles, yet these are the most easily inhaled deep into your lungs where they can be the most detrmental. This is why I believe ionization to be so important - - it clumps the little particles together into bigger ones that can be filtered effectively.

If I can be of further assistance, or if you have questions, please let me know before rating me.

If this solves the issue, please rate it accordingly. My goal is to earn a "FixYa" rating from everyone I help.

Thanks for using,

SOURCE: air rifle?

Most rifles will hit whithin at least one inch across a normal back yard. You're quality is going to come from the manufacturer. CO2 and Air Pump is a personal choice, I have noticed no difference in performance, though some say CO2 is more reliable. Daisy is a classic manufacturer and has some modern, good weighted rifles that will shoot dependably. Anything with a Walther barrel or the Walther name is a good investment when it comes to rifles (not so much for pistols). Break barrel actions are prone to jam, be difficult to open once lead shavings build up, and pinch nastilly, and if you have a child or are a novice shooter yourself, a traditional action will help you learn proper habits early on. You really shouldnt spend 300$ for an Air Rifle, or even 200...Maybe even 100.

SOURCE: Benjamin Marauder air rifle is leaking air ????

I presume you've solved this problem by now. But for future reference, the Marauder "Owner's Manual" explains why this may happen, and how to solve this problem!

"TIP: If your airgun is being filled from completely empty (zero pressure) the tension of the hammer pressing against the valve may keep the valve open which will cause air to leak down the barrel. This is most likely to happen with a gun tuned for a high fill pressures, where the hammer spring preload is adjusted to a high rate. In the event this occurs try cocking the bolt and leaving it in the rear (fully open) position to eliminate
the force on the valve allowing it to close. Always make certain the airgun is not loaded and there is not a pellet in the chamber."

Are you sure its a bb gun and not a pellet gun? Usually bb guns have a magnet on the bolt, that keep the bbs from falling out. Pellets don't roll so the won't roll out the barrell.

Benjamin Marauder air rifle is leaking air ???? does not hold pressure

If a drop of oil in there won't swell up the seal, you will have to send it back to Crosman. They bought all Benjamin/ Sheridan services, they repair the rifles fairly cheap. You cannot take this apart, If you do, you will be sending them the pieces anyway. They have giant presses and jigs for holding the springs. I have had a bunch of rifles sent there. Check it out.

    I have a crOsman model 1077 that wont take a CO2

Probably not by you, but by the shop, maybe. It sounds like the needle was bent and lost it's seal. Crosman has repair stations, if they don't fix it, they will send you another one. I have sent them guns before and got brand new ones instead of the old piece of junk I sent them for repair. They also bought out Sheridan/ Benjamin line of Air rifles, And they repair all those too. I sent them an ancient rifle, an old Benjamin Franklin,17 cal. bare bones stock and barrel only, they sent me back a total refurbish, welded, painted, new .22 cal.barrel, all new guts, unbelievable. I think the total cost was $35 on that one. They wanted $15 for paint, I told them I didn't want it painted, they said, OK, Get a hold of them. Hope this helps.

Air rifle will not pump up

The cylinder needs to be oiled. Its the same concept as a car jack.

Go to a gun store or a Dicks/Bass Pro/Wall mart for the oil.

    Good luck!

Model 342 Benjamin Franklin 22 caliber air gun

I recently purchased a rebuild kit for my 342. I bought the kit from airgundepot. It was the kit for the
392 and I modified it a little. On the new plunger, you have to drill a hole in the center of it the same
size as the pin's smallest diameter. You can use all of the parts in this kit except for the small o-ring. I think it sold for about 39 dollars or so. My rifle was manufactured in 1972 and it fires like new.
