1985 Mercury 7.5 hp has no spark...... changed switchbox still no spark what next?
Check your engine kill switch disconnect the wire from one side and see if it sparks if not then it is probably a bad coil or exciter coil. They do go . Make sure the engine is in neutral .. Test this by twirling the prop in both directions. It will free spin in your in neutral the boat motor will not spark if it is in gear.

SOURCE: My Mercury outboard 135 hp
my main suspect here in a case like this is the reed valve ,its sits behind the carb and all 2 stroke engines have one ,if you remove this and its clean and sealing up ok then check the stator under the flywheel ,In the end i gave up with the 2 stroke engine and bought a 4 stroke engine and the amount of fuel i have saved ?? Under the flywheel on the top of the engine is a advance /****** mechanism and this could be sticking or siezed up as well

Have you ran an Oil pressure test? low oil pressure (20lb)or no oil pressure(0lb)and the lifters will not open the valves enough to let fuel in to the cylinder to start your engine!
SOURCE: will a 1985 mercury grand marquis transmission
