SOURCE: Whirlpool Gold GU15 dishwasher won't start

The appliance repair technician just diagnosed the problem for me. He says it's a bad touchpad, and it would cost $257 for him to replace it. Thought I'd share the diagnosis in case anyone else comes upon this thread.

SOURCE: My 6 year old Whirlpool dishwasher is loud

This is a bad wash pump. Looking at about $175 for just the sump assembly. You could do it yourself, but unit would need to be uninstalled.

It is possible that the machine does not start off the cycle because there are errors or back feedback from the inputs. For the program to start up the main program controller must initiate the INLET valve to open up and allow water to flow into. Now if youheard the HUM then it canbe that the motor is not initiated which is relative to a faulty pump or motor. Also the voltage at the inlet valve must be checked or the fault relates to no voltage from the controller. This means the controller is a suspect.

If the water flows then the flow should be good, if not the inlet valve is bad or there is dirt in the filter. Also check the flow at the inlet of the water line. What is most important for the motor to start functioning is that the door switch must be ON when the door is shut or this will be an error for starting the motor .

Finally after the wash the drain valve will be activated, the water is allowed to come in to rinse and then finally the drain valve/pump activated so as to drain off all the water .

Make sure that a fault in any of the cycle will relate to the specified action, so check the command from the program module and then the executing device be it the valve or motor or pump.

Whirlpool Dishwasher will fill water then stops

If it fills with water properly then stops, and especially if there is a humming noise, it is possible that

- motor start capacitor has failed
- drive belt has slipped or snapped
- belt tensioner spring has broken

Whirlpool dishwasher wont wash

if the bottom tub is filling with water but not washing the issues is with the wash motor, some of this model use a start capacitor that can fail, if it has a capacitor on the side of the motor it may have failed but are difficult to diagnose but are cheap to replace so worth trying, if this doesn't help or if it doesn't have a capacitor then the fault is with the wash motor.

It fills with water and nothing happens

It can be disheartening to open your Whirlpool Gold dishwasher and find that the device is full of dirty water that has not drained from a previous cycle. Although you certainly would rather have no problems, having a problem with the washing machine not draining as well as it should is one of the easiest-remedied problems to have. Fixing this problem doesn't require you to pay a repairman; you should be able to do it yourself.
Open the cabinet under the sink.

  • 2 Unscrew the clamp that is holding the drain hose to the garbage disposal valve.
  • 3 Insert a screwdriver into the valve opening and tap the handle of the screwdriver with a hammer. Doing this will remove the knockout plug from the opening. The knockout plug is designed to be used for garbage disposals that are not connected to dishwashers. People often fail to remove the knockout plug when installing a dishwasher to the disposal.
  • 4 Insert tongs into the top of the garbage disposal opening and remove the knockout plug from the device.
  • 5 Replace the drain hose and screw the clamp back into place.

Dish washer fills and then drians without washing

If you're sure it is heating the water, then it sounds like the wash motor/pump has failed. If you've worked on washing machines and/or dish washers before, this is potentialy a DIY job - the Haynes Dishwasher manual is very good, and parts can be found on the internet.

The reason for cheking it is actually heating the water is that the symptoms sound very similar to those of a failed heater = fill, pause, empty, stop usually accompanied wth an error code. Error code will be presented by a number of flashes of a lamp, or a number on a display panle depending whch machine you've got.
