Double check if it really is a dvd and not a vcd, the latest dvd players only play real dvd's so not the ones you make at home by downloading movies and burning them on empty cd's

Check and replace the Laser Pick-up unit of the DVD player. It is weak. Contact any service technician. This work cannot be done by a user. It is somewhat skilled one.

Hi what you could try first is buying a cd lense cleaner then run this then this should remove any dust as this can cause the problem your having. If the discs played fine before then the chances are the lense needs cleaning failing that you will probably find that the laser has stopped working but try cleaning first let me know how you get on ok
Couple things could be. I've found : the disc can be dirty, wipe it off. Or if its damaged the lens won't read it.
What usually helps the most is to put a lens cleaner in the player. they sell them. I only have a CD cleaner ( prob called lens cleaner). It still fixes it for me.
First try different DVD discs. All players of DVD or CD are likely to fail in this way over time. You can try to clean the lens inside the unit, but it may not fix it. Its wise to buy the cheapest replacement, because they never last much longer than a year.

Just due to dust on your dvd lens run dvd lens cleaner and after load full drivers of dvd which either given you on time of buying or you have to download from sony site
Its Sounds as if your DVD went kaput this tends to be a problem with most combination players usually the VCR goes first also you may need to run a cleaning CD made for DVD players maybe that will help.
These units use a belt for the loading mechanism. If the belt slips at all, the loading will not complete and lock. This will prevent the unit from reading the disc. Try loading a music CD. If hte CD plays ok, then the optics assembly is in need of at least a cleaning or replacement.
