The torque converter clutch circuit may be at fault. The best way to determine the problem is to have a scanner/computer to read check engine codes.

SOURCE: I accelerate my 2000 neon, and it vibrates and get grinding noise

Check the front drive axles and boots. A bad cv (constant velocity) joint can cause this.

SOURCE: Harsh grinding noise while in gear and car won't drive!

Had the exact same thing in my 93 and it was the CV Axles - they have a C clip that hold them in place - sometimes the C clip and fail; sometimes you simply have to replace the CV Axles - much cheaper then a tranny; a good suspension shop should be able to diagnos w/o it costing you an arm and a leg.

Occasional when I accelerate it makes a vibrating noise. I cant feel it but def can hear it.

All engines vibrate. The engine and transmission mounts are what helps you from feeling it . I would wait till it gets worse, Like feeling it all the time. Even at idle, in gear.

What is causing rattling grinding noise at idle especially in my 89 4.5 DeVille?

The technique I always used to identify where such a noise was coming from was to use a very long screwdriver (2 feet long), while the engine is running. CAREFULLY touch the screwdriver end to each pulley or other object under the hood, and put your ear to the handle. The device making the noise will become very clear.

It could be AC pump/clutch, alternator, water pump, power steering pump, etc.

I'm assuming a manual transmission--check the fluid level in it. There is a removable plug on the side of the case. If removed, stick your finger in the hole far enough to bend it down a little, pull it back out and see if the end is covered with a thick oil. If not, it may be too low to lube properly. You can put more in yourself, but it's pretty messy--take it to a lube shop and have them top it up. If the above doesn't help, it is probably time to service the internal parts in the transmission.
