SOURCE: I need a functional product

I hope I can help!
Sadly, unless you actually own Microsoft word, I cannot legally give you a key for free. There really is no legal way to obtain a free key (aside from working as a promotion or something of that type). However you can get it for far less if you have a student email address (.edu), or you could try getting another trial for office 2010. I know that being stranded with a trial and such is not exactly fun, but legally there is now way to get you a free key. However, there are a few very good free alternatives that might hold you over until you decide whether or not to buy office. You might like some of them enough that you do not feel the need to purchase a new office suite.
Google docs is one alternative. You just have to sign into your google account, and the program is free. It is not the best or most feature-filled, but it is functional, and stores your documents online so you always have access to them.
You might also try Microsoft's version of Google docs, also free. This might feel more familiar to you if you are used to Microsoft word and such.
Probably the best free, desktop-based office suite is open office. It does not look as good as Microsoft office, but can do many of the same things. Of course, the best part is that it is free.

I really do hope that helps!

My wife bought me Xmas 2018 a Stanley Fatmax Lithium ion LED Spotlight FL5W10 600 lumens. The bright portion of the LED has quit working. What are my options - has only been 3 months.

here is the website:
https://www.stanleytools.com/products/hand-tools/flashlights-lighting/spotlight/waterproof-led-rechargeable-spotlight/fl5w10
and they say the warranty is 1 year:
Warranty
1 Year Limited Warranty
The manufacturer, Baccus Global warrants products against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of ONE (1) YEAR from the date of retail purchase by the original end-user purchaser ("Warranty Period").
If there is a defect and a valid claim is received within the Warranty Period, the defective product can be replaced or repaired in the following ways: (1) Return the product to the manufacturer for repair or replacement at manufacturer's option. Proof of purchase may be required by manufacturer. (2) Return the product to the retailer where product was purchased for an exchange (provided that the store is a participating retailer). Returns to retailer should be made within the time period of the retailer's return policy for exchanges only (usually 30 to 90 days after the sale). Proof of purchase may be required. Please check with the retailer for their specific return policy regarding returns that are beyond the time set for exchanges. Please call 1-877-571-2391 for more information or return instructions.
This warranty does not apply to accessories, bulbs, fuses and batteries; defects resulting from normal wear and tear, accidents; damages sustained during shipping; alterations; unauthorized use or repair; neglect, misuse, abuse; and failure to follow instructions for care and maintenance for the product.

Otherwise, check with the seller who sold it to your wife - If they are unwilling, and more companies seem to be going this route, go to the Manufacturer

I would like info on returning a unsatisfactory product that does not meet its expectations.

Returns and Refunds: Federal Law

Most retailers allow customers to return goods if they change their minds or receive an unwanted item as a gift simply because it makes good business sense. But they are not required to do unless there is an obvious defect with the product. Merchants also may require a receipt in order to accept returns, which helps prevent return fraud (see discussion of this below).

Legally, it is a matter of contract law: If the merchant's policy (or sales contract) clearly states "all sales final" in a way that is not confusing to customers, then it is not required to accept returns on otherwise salable goods.

Federal law governing refunds is fairly simple and straigtforward, applying to online as well as in-store sales. Merchants do not have to provide a full refund on returned goods unless one of the following conditions is true:

  • The goods were defective (or, more generally, the merchant broke its sales contract)

  • Refunds are part of the merchant's stated return policy

Returns and Refunds: State Law

Some states have laws addressing consumer refunds, although not all of them offer guidance on how the laws apply to their residents who purchase goods from out-of-state merchants over the Internet. Below are some examples of state laws governing refunds:

  • California: Merchants are required to clearly post their refund policy unless they offer full cash refund, exchange, or store credit within seven days of the purchase date. Failing this requirement, customers may return goods for a full refund within 30 days of the purchase.

  • Florida: Merchants that do not offer refunds must post this fact where customers can see. Failing this requirement, customers may return goods for a full refund within 20 days of the purchase.

  • Illinois: Illinois citizens may cancel consumer transactions (and get a full refund) within three business days for door-to-door sales, campground memberships, and gym memberships.

In most cases, regardless of how a merchant drafts its return policy, the conditions of such a policy must be prominently displayed at the place of purchase (including Web sites) for it to be considered valid. Merchants may charge a restocking fee for returned merchandise but, as with any contractual obligation, must make this clear in their policies.

Return Fraud

There are numerous ways customers can defraud a merchant through the return process, but not all return fraud is distinguishable from legitimate returns. For example, someone who has a hard time deciding on what clothes to buy and makes frequent returns is not trying to game the system. But someone who buys a formal dress, wears it once, and then returns it the next day is in fact defrauding the merchant.

U.S. retailers lose between $9.6 billion and $14.8 billion annually from return fraud, according to research by the National Retail Federation (NRF) and the Loss Prevention Research Council. Returned merchandise is either marked down or thrown away, and often incurs hidden costs associated with being restocked.

Below are some common types of return fraud:

  • Wardrobing (or "renting"): Buying clothes or other items for one-time use and then returning them

  • Stolen Goods: Returning goods shoplifted at the same store or stolen elsewhere

  • Fraudulent Receipts: Using a reused, found, stolen, or altered receipt to return goods; or returning goods to a store with a higher price in order to make a profit

  • Employee Fraud: Manipulation or assistance from within the company

  • Price Switching: Affixing a higher-priced tag on an item in hopes of returning it for the higher refund

Consumers who are caught engaging in return fraud may face shoplifting or theft charges, as long as evidence exists that an actual crime took place. For example, wardrobing may be next to impossible to prove, but surveillance video of someone removing price tags could be the smoking gun in such a case.

My portable durabrand dvd player wont play my movies

If it's only three months old then return it for exchange or refund.

Durabrand is one of many low budget no-name brands which buy generic products at the lowest price possible and then stick their badge on the front.

This is great for bargain hunters, but at the price they buy items for there is very little quality control at the factory on what's being shipped out As a result, problems of the type which you describe are especially common within the first few months of use which is effectively a running in period which will reveal any defects.

I'm not knocking your choice of DVD player, but you do get what you pay for.

60GB ipod from best buy online as refurbished

Hello cslp,

I believe that you purchased the item online (based on the title of the post) but I am confused about your listing the product "as refurbished." Best Buy stores and the BestBuy.com website do not sell refurbished iPods. We only sell new items, which I believe you item is new based on the fact that you say it was in a sealed box.

If you purchased the iPod from a Best Buy store you can get a full refund or exchange on the item within 30 days of purchase as long as you have the receipt and as long as the product is in new and resellable condition. If you purchased the product from www.BestBuy.com then you can likewise make a return within 30 days or receiving the product.

If for some reason you are past the 30 day return period, there is a one-year manufacturers warranty on iPods. Your local Best Buy store should be assisting you in having the unit sent out for service under the warranty as long as the unit is under warranty.

Best Regards
Ken
