Dog chewed cord
Posted by jnunez918 on Jun 20, 2008
My dog chewed through the power cord (luckily unplugged). Are there replacement parts available and I can't seem to find out to detach the cord from the unit.
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. There are replacement parts available for the replacement of the power cord and to check your owner’s manual to see the schematics of the replacement of the cord. You can check with your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or you can call cust serv @ Bissell @ the phone # listed below. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

you have to take the machine completely apart and get inside where the motor is.take the cover off there are 3 screws 2 on the left side behind the hose and 1 on the right side back by the wheel.that will take the covr off.now where the upright sets on the base you will see a ******** each side of the motor, take those off, that will seperate the upright from the base.now you have to open the motor housing, there are 4 screws 2 on the front side and 2 on the bach side that will expose the motor and the cord.take out the old cord and splice in the new one.then put it all back together in reverse of how you took it apart.please leave feedback

You can cut the bad section of wire out of the cord, cut the insulation on the cord to get to the wires. Match your colors, strip the insulation from the individual wires and twist together. Wrap each wire with electrical tape (making sure no wire is exposed, can be a fire hazard), then wrap the cord with electrical tape. The cord will be a little shorter, but should work fine.

remove the cover right above the canister. there is a couple of screws in the front holding it in. i think they are T15 torx. that will give you access to your switches and your cord
SOURCE: Dog chewed on the power cord, how do I replace it?
I would try to find a repair shop to replace it as bissell does not currently offer replacement power cords (atleast not on their website) if your power cord is only chewed in one place you could always just splice it back together and use some electrical tape. sorry I couldn't be of more help.
