This one needs a little troubleshooting to narrow it down, but sounds like it could be your ignition coil or maybe the igniter. Both of these are located inside the distributor. For more ideas, and troubleshooting techniques, including pictures, check out tegger.com
Good luck, Mark

Why did car die while driving on Interstate and will not start back up

When the engine dies all the lights on the dash should come ! It's when the engine is still running an those lights come is when you need to worry ! You need to check for spark an fuel pressure. If no spark probably an ignition module , crankshaft position sensor or distributer module , what ever ignition system it has. If there is spark spray some carburetor clean into the engine , if it try's to start you have a fuel delivery problem , fuel pump , relay ! No Start Diagnostic Basics EricTheCarGuy

What could cause a1991 suzuki samurai to have no fire from a new coil?

no spark from coil directly?
is the cam turning, is the dizzy rotor spinning. ????

check all fuses first. Ig-coil, FI and dome.
then using diagnostic jumper wire or fuse, (as approp)
crank engine look for code 41 o 42.!!!

USA cars , answers only
our cars are all EFI that year.
no engine swaps to Suzuki G16A/B sidekick or tracker engines.!
1: engine cranks
2: no spark
3: The ECu makes spark
the CMP sensor in the DIzzy , (never fails if rotor turns, does rotor turn, if not cam belt igored and now snapped.)
the cam turns. the CMP fires. the ECU takes this CMP signal
and fires the ignitor next to coil and the coil charges, and release and BAM spark.

that is it.
the ECU will tell you when the CMP dies or the Ignitor fails
why not ask it.
1: key on
2: diagnostic jumper in place (flashes 12s for ok)
3: crank engine,for 5sec, not 1 ,not 2.
3: release key not off.
4: see code 41, or 42, BINGO !@!!!!

My 1998 honda civic died when i was driving it. It cranks but dosn't start it also makes a noice at the beginning could it be the fuel pump?

How many miles are on it? Did you have the timing belt changed at 90,000 miles? Is there spark to the spark plugs? Do you have fuel pressure at the fuel rail? A broken timing belt will make the car sound alot different than normal when cranking.

Car starts but dies after one second of engine running

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

It turns over but dosn't start up it's getting

There are LOTS more options. However, each one has to be checked and eliminated as the possible source of your problem until you find the one that is missing.

An engine must be getting Fuel, Air, Compression and Ignition to run. Since it has spark at the spark plugs, MOST of the ignition system has been eliminated as the possible cause. The only thing left in that system is the spark plugs themselves.

So, your problem is either the spark plugs, or it is NOT in the ignition system. The other systems must be looked at to eliminate them in the same manner. The FUEL system MUST have fuel pressure, fuel delivery (volume from fuel pump and filter) and fuel control (injectors, injector pulse, etc.) to work. For Air, the air induction system needs a clean air filter and proper connections to the engine with no vacuum leaks or obstructions.
For compression, all of the internal engine parts including pistons, rings, cylinder walls, cylinder heads, intake and exhaust valves, timing chains or timing belts and gears must be in good working order.

If all of the things above are working and in good condition, the engine will run.

1995 Civic Dies

you may have a faulty crank position sensor shutting the spark off. this will throw a code into the computer though my suggestion would be to have the ecm read for codes.
