No power thru power plug. my Acer Aspire 5050 will not recharge. It appears that the AC/DC plug or power board is defective. I've researched how to dismantle the laptop but am missing a couple of not so obvious screws and don't want to force anything. I need to dismantle the laptop to visually inspect the power board and possibly replace it. Does anyone have a service manual or knowledge to dismantle my laptop? Thanks.

Hello

I have a schematic but it doesn't show a separate power board (although Acer does make alot of revisions). Look under the battery or under the CD tray for those hard to find screws. Acer likes to put sticky plastic circles over screws to hide them. Now unless *********** board is fried to a crisp don't replace the whole board just to fix a power connector. My company repairs these all the time for $50.00 labor + parts.

Sometimes when the charger connector breaks, it shorts out the charging module on the motherboard, blowing it. It can also blow the external power supply.

If you can find someone else with a similar power supply, try using it. If that doesn't work, you've got bigger issues.

Either same problem or that you messed up your PC's board the more.

You might be having solder (lead) bridging two components together on the circuit board; especially if you were not careful enough when replacing the faulty DC converter.

This time around, maybe its good you take it to a professional electronics repair shop for assistance.

However, if you feel up to it, then take it apart and look closely at the components on the motherboard close to the DC converter for any undesired solder linking two components together (which ought not to be so).

Be carefule while at it. Best of luck

Battery can be used to power computer. Plug cannot. Tried a different power plug from a different computer with around the same voltage and whatts, but still didn't power. This is a DC in power plug...

The problem is most likely the DC connector in the computer. I have replaced many of these. Normally what happens is the connector is stressed by moving the computer while plugged in stressing the connector. It could also be the DC converter board but .... that would probably affect battery operation also.

To replace the connector, you have to completely disassemble the system down to removing the main board.

Hi,
If after the replacing the AC adapter the problem still persists , the power board on the motherboard has gone bad. The same can be repaired, but would require you to take the system in for repairs. if the system is under warranty then the best thing to do is get the motherboard replaced.

Thanks

Acer Aspire 5920-6864 wont turn on at all

Good questions.

You might want to try another power adapter first before replacing the board though.

If you do decide to replace the board I always use the same exact part number to avoid having to re-install windows, etc. You can do some research though to see if a higher revision will work. That info usually isn't available on the net though :(

If the board is available on the cheap then I'd say go ahead and fix this laptop otherwise lots of them are going for 200-300 this Black Friday ;)

Power cord attachment into the back of computer seems worn, it wants to run off battery instead of recharging through power supply

Either Have A Failing AC Adapter, Or A Failing DC Jack
you can test the AC Adapter using a multimeter (available at any home improvement center for $6)..
The DC Jack Would Need To Physically Be Checked To See If It's Faulty... which would intail removal of all parts down to the motherboard and visually inspect the DC Jack (the port where the Charger Cord Plugs into)

Remove The Battery... Plug AC Adapter Into Laptop.. Attempt To Power On....

Power Board Problem and Power Button Hinges Top Cover broken

It would be cheaper to have the power board repaired but the replacement is around $55 from ebay. I'd get a new moulding for it if its available or even if you got somthing plastic welded up.

Acer aspire 5050 can't turn it on

If you dont see any green lights and you dont hear any boot up sounds ( hd, fans, etc) try to take out battery and just plug in the AC adapter to a known good power outlet. Make sure your power plug is good too. If you hear boot-up sounds, see green lights but no display then toggle on the "fn" key and or try on an external monitor.
