I have hundreds of pictures in my Leica C that I have already copied to computer. It is too bothersome to delete pictures one by one from the camera. How can I format the memory card?

If you have a card reader, try one of these memory card recovery programs: http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Best/recover-sd-card.html

Hi Tanya

It sounds like something was corrupted when you transferred your pictures to the computer.

If you have all the pictures safely on your computer, it will be ok to reformat the memory card and then just copy and paste the pictures back to the card.

Insert the card in your card reader, go to My Computer, you should be able to see the card as a removable drive. You can click and open it just like a folder and see what is on the card.

I would also back up the pictures to an external drive or dvd so they are extra safe!

First of all, forget about using the built-in memory...it's very small. Does your camera work properly when a memory card is inserted? You could also go into the setup menu to "reset". That would set your camera back to factory defaults.

You said it in the last seven words "deleted the pictures off the memory cards" Once the pictures have been downloaded to the computer Hard Drive you need to Format the memory card. Formatting a memory card is done in the camera it is to be used which brings it back to a clean surface and compatibility. Your manual said that "normally" formatting isn't necessary which is a pile the bull left behind. I could go into detail as to why format but I'm trying to keep this short/
Here is a diagram to show you where the "format" menus is and what to do with it.

Computer no longer acknowledges camera

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa (http://picasa.google.com ).

What to do when it says internal memory full

Delete some pictures off you camera. It means that there is no more room on your memory.

Make sure to transfer them to a computer, before you delete them, as you wouldn't want to lose precious memories.

You should remove the memory card, plug it in to a card reader on a computer, and copy any photos off of it, then delete them (or reformat the card). There may be photos on the card (in a different folder, or in an unreadable format for the camera) that may make the camera think that there are both 0 photos on the card as well as 0 space left on the card.

Some pictures aren't showing, they're on the SD card and coming up as black thumbnails but not showing. Is there a file size limit, they're only few hundred kb

It would be nice to know what camera and model you have but, I'm going to say this about your problem. If you are viewing the pictures you have already taken on the camera viewer I would think that the black thumbnails are the pictures that were or have been deleted. I would suggest that the memory card be loaded to your computer hard Drive and the memory card then formatted. You should always format the memory card not delete. By deleting pictures there is a good possibility that you can cause holes or corrupt the card. Yes I know the manufacture gives you this handy little garbage can but really it's not there to continually delete pictures without formatting the card.

How do I delete pictures from camera after loading onto computer

Actually you can delete pictures directly from the computer (camera still attached). Just make sure that you have already saved a copy of the files from a different location on your computer.

You can also delete it on the camera itself and mostly has an option of bulk deleting pictures. If you can share with me the model of the camera, please post here.
