Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Offhand, definitely an electrical issue. Some ideas to check, consider and/or explore:

  • IGN switch - check for loose, corroded or heating connections. To test, under normal usage of the vehicle, should feel warm but not overly hot. If so, then possibly loose connection;
  • fuse/relay box - check for loose, corroded or burned terminals, holders, clips and connectors/pins. Use an electrical contact cleaner and spray. It may also be necessary to scrape to remove burnt marks/corrosion;
  • fusible link - the battery would have 2 wires connected to the + terminal. The big wire goes to the starter, the smaller of the two is the electrical systems main wire. This normally goes to the fuse/relay box. Check for frayed ends, loose connection, corroded terminals. In some instances instead of being at the battery's + terminal, it is connected to the end of the big cable down at the starter motor.
  • ALL connectors with big wires - these carry the main +12 either as always ON, ACC or IGN. If a connector has a wire bigger than the others, check them. It may be necessary to disconnect to enable you access to the inside pins/terminals. Scrape them clean.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: 1999 legacy outback no power going up hill,new knock sensor

Check your tail pipe for color. If insides are black you are running rich and it all may boil down to an oxygen sensor or an EGR valve. EGR valves are the most common causes for the 'check engine' light to come on. Your trouble codes will tell you what it is. Some auto stores will check it for free or you can buy an inexpensive checker.

What's the check engine light code? You need to get the code(s) read using a code reader and then we can help. A place like AutoZone will read the code for free and then you can look it up at

1999 audi a6 wont crank sometimes

Either there is a bad or dirty battery connection which is allowing the lights but no crank or you could have dirty or loose starter wires or starter relay may be bad or ignition is a possibility. All these can be tested with an ohmmeter for power. I would start with connections

Batery light would come on when accelerating up to freeway speed or when going over a big hill and head lights would dim. Mechanic said alt/gen/bat all good, car still seemed to drive fine otherwise....

the voltage regulator is bad inside the alternator. it seems to be getting hot and kicking off the charging system. the last time it has drained your battery.

Won't start

I would try the battery, it sounds like it has enough juice to power the lights, but not everything else. You can take the battery to a local parts store and they can test it at no charge.

I have a 99 camry the battery went dead and i jumped it the lights come on but its not getting no power to the egnition no dash lights no fire

If your battery 'went dead' your probably have had a battery problem for awhile. Put in a new battery AND make sure the alternator is putting out 14-15volts. You can do this yourself. Buy or borrow a voltmeter-or DVOM-connect the black to the neg, and the red to the pos. while its running and make sure you have the 14-15 volts. Anything under this voltage is probably and indication that your alternator is needed also.

Battery, O2 sensor, transmission miss fire

change O2 sensor as we all breathe air,Now battery ?? try disconnecting it ,then with nothing on touch battery lead too terminal and see if you get a spark ?? no spark then battery cells shorting out across the plates caused by sulphation ,,cure put battery on a small charger for about a week to try to de sulphate the plates.Small discharge when touching lead to terminal then a boot light is on or an alarm system.Another trick is to discinnect the big wire on the back of the altenator and leave car for three days to see if goes flat as a dodgy diode in the rectifier will give the same fault.
