Open Question

My ef600 started and ran to full rpm for about 10 to 15 seconds then then back to idle speed, now only runs at idle speed

SOURCE: idle problem

you can't adjust the idle it's all done by the pcm.you might have a IAC going bad or sticking(idle air control solenoid)

If you ever have an oil leak it really should be fixed right away unless this happened all at once. Go to a local mech or if there is an Autozone around go there and have them check the Engine Light code for you for free. You will have more info to work with.

My wife had a 93 ford tempo 4 cylinder with same problem.It turned out to be the idle air solenoid mounted on the air intake manifold.

try checking the thermostat control senser. it caused my bronco to start for a second and then die. after a while it would finally start and run for a while then die driving down the road. i changed the thermostat control senser and it fixed all problems of dieing

SOURCE: 2005 Katana....Idle (warm) slowly goes from 1,100 to 2,000 rpm

There is an air leak letting outside air into the fuel/air mix. This leans the mix and causes the problem you describe. The diagram below shows the likely carb air leak areas; "O" ring seal dried out, clamp seal bad due to loose clamp or hardened manifold rubber, rubber manifold dried out / cracked, the vacuum cap is loose. Other sources are a loose spark plug, bad valves and leaking head gasket.

Ryobi 725r trimmer carburetor adjustment


Turn both low and high adjustment screws carefully clockwise all the way in - do not overtighten.. Then back out each two full turns. Set the idle speed control for highest setting. Prime and start and let it run and warm up for about 15 seconds - then lower the rpms a tad and then adjust the low end screw for highest rpm. Then reset the idle to lower reasonable level. You may have to go back and forth with those two adjustments till it runs fine at low idle speed..

Then accelerate to highest speed and set the high adjustment for highest rpm. Then go from idle to high speed. If not smooth a small adjustment on the high speed screw is in order. Keep doing that until you get a nice smooth transition form low speed to high speed.

2000 Honda shadow vt750 running rich and can't get a smooth idiol


Hi, Ej the carburetor throttle shaft wheel has two cables the cable closest to the right side of the bike is the throttle cable and the one closest to the left side is the idle cable. Right about the middle between the two is the idle adjustment bolt it faces out towards the air filter end of the carb. The engine should be at operating temperature with the enrichener off to set the idle between 950-1050 rpm. Turn the idle adjustment bolt clockwise to increases idle speed and counterclockwise to decrease idle speed. If you have access to your air fuel mixture bolt you may adjust it as well if not there is a video below on how to gain access, make sure you start with clean or new spark plugs. Gently turn the air fuel mixture bolt clockwise until it starts to bottom out "STOP" do not over tighten as it will damage the taper on the end, now back it out 2 full turns to establish a starting point start the engine and check the idle rpm's and adjust the idle adjustment bolt accordingly for 950-1050 rpm if necessary, adjust the air fuel mixture bolt 1/4 turn at a time and let the engine settle for about 10 seconds, clockwise for a leaner mixture and counterclockwise for a richer mixture you are seeking the highest rpm your air fuel mixture bolt can acquire without going past 3 full turns from bottom then readjusting the idle adjustment bolt back down to 950-1050 rpm If you can not detect any rpm change and can not stall the engine by turning the air-fuel mixture bolt all the way in then your pilot/low-speed jet is too big. Zama Carb? Turn both low and high meter screws 2 full turns counterclockwise, and idle speed control to maximum. Prime unit and start motor. Run for about ten seconds and then turn idle jet (clockwise) for maximum rpm and then lower idle rpms - readjust idle meter as necessary along with idle screw. Then gun unit at high speed and turn high screw for maximum rpm. Go from idle to max and make sure there is a smooth transition. If not play a tad with the idle mixture screw till that is achieved.

The motorcycle starts but I can not keep it running


Hi, Anonymous it should be noted I am not allowed to use the word "SCR*W" as Fixya considers it profane. Turn the bolt clockwise to increases idle speed and counterclockwise to decrease idle speed. If you have access to your air fuel mixture bolt you may adjust it as well if not there is a video below on how to gain access, make sure you start with clean or new spark plugs. Gently turn the bolt clockwise until it starts to bottom out "STOP" do not over tighten as it will damage the taper on the bolt, now back it out 2 full turns to establish a starting point start the engine and check the idle rpm's and adjust the idle bolt accordingly for 950-1050 rpm if necessary, adjust the A/F mixture bolt 1/4 turn at a time and let the engine settle for about 10 seconds, clockwise for a leaner mixture and counterclockwise for a richer mixture you are seeking the highest rpm your A/F bolt can acquire without going past 3 full turns from bottom then readjusting the idle bolt back down to 950-1050 rpm If you can not detect any rpm change and can not stall the engine by turning the A/F bolt all the way in then your pilot/low-speed jet is too big. Final adjustment should be made with a clean air filter mounted to the carburetor. 2013 Honda Activa will not idle when warm


Hi, Anonymous you need to make sure you have no intake leaks by spraying some Brake Kleen, Contact Cleaner, Starting Fluid etc. around the intake manifold and seals, if the RPM's go up or down significantly then you have a leak that needs to be fixed before you can continue with the carburetor adjustment.
The engine should be at operating temperature with the enrichener off to set the idle between 950-1050 rpm. Turn the idle skrew clockwise to increase the idle speed and counterclockwise to decrease the idle speed. If you have access to your air fuel mixture skrew you may turn it as well, if not there is a video below on how to gain access, make sure you start with clean or new spark plugs.
