Mariner 25 hp 2 stroke hard to start then quits and won't restart

I replaced the spark plugs, check for water in the gas and cleaned the fuel filter. The fuel is flowing to the carb.
It will be hard to start, when it does start it runs for a few minutes at almost full throttle. When I try to idle down it dies. Then will not restart.

It sounds like the float is sticking in the carb. Since the carb is higher than the fuel tank it pulls the fuel in by vaccum of the engine. when running at high rpms, it can burn the fuel thats flowing into the carb, when you idle down, the bowl of the carb is filling up with fuel faster than the engine can burn it and causing it to flood. Then when it shuts off at idle it does not want to start back up because it is flooded. To make a long stary short, pull the carb and give it a good cleaning and your problems should be solved.

The carb needs to be removed, taken apart so it can be cleaned. after sitting, the gas will gum up the inside and stop up the jets. Also, it's not a good idea to use starting fluid on a 2 stroke engine.

I have spark and getting fuel won't start

if its a 2 stroke then you need fuel spark and air to get the bike to start have you got compression? check it by removing the spark plug and put your finger over the hole air try and start the bike your finger should be pulled into the hole if not then a piston ring is either cracked or broken

open the air box and check the filter then clean the carb thats all you need for a 2 stroke

if its a 4 stroke then again check the air filter and compression remember that a 4 stroke doesnt have the oil with the fuel it goes in a separate chamber

hope this helps

Mariner 2 hp outboard engine (1985) not pumping water

My Mariner 8 has a thermostat fitted. It only pumps water when it heats to normal temp.

If your engine stops, it may be a fuel problem. Check the plug and go to Marine Doctor (a) fuel diagnostics, (b) spark plug diagnostics, sections. PK

I have a 18" Craftsman gas chain saw. It will not keep running, after two or three cuts it just stops and cannot be started again until it sits for 15 to 20 minutes. I have cleaned the air filter and...

Try removing the fuel cap for a moment, then try restart. If ok, check the fuel vent for plugging. Check the fuel filter for plugging. Inspect the fuel lines for decay or other damage. Check for spark when it stops--it may be the ignition module failing when hot. Check for sawdust and dirt plugging the ventilation system--blow it out with compressed air. Does the engine 4-stroke at speed when not cutting, but does 2-stroke when cutting? Make sure the chain is being oiled while running. Hope this helps!

Replace the fuel filter, fuel lines, primer button (if equipped), and disassemble the carburetor, clean, and re-kit. Jet needles are preset at 1-1/2 turns CCW from stops (lightly). Make sure the spark plug fires a snappy blue spark when pulled through. If nothing, ignition parts prices and availability may justify replacing the saw with a new one. If sparks ok, start the engine and let warm up. Open the throttle and adjust H needle CW till the engine speeds up, but still 4-strokes. Proper setting is when the engine will 4-stroke, but immediately 2-stroke when cutting. Let the engine idle and adjust L CW so that the engine idles fairly well, but allows the engine to 'follow the throttle' Hope this helps!

Motor runs for 5-10 min. then starts missing and quits.

Check your spark first,if you do not have spark your problem is the coils-if you do have spark the problem probaly lies withone of your valves getting stuck after getting hot and soonas it cools down a little it closes and then you can restart it till it gets hot again.Hope this helps
