D=st

We are solving for s, so we need to divide both sides by t.
d/t=st/t

d/t=s

Good luck,

Paul

(-1-7), (-3,8) slope

Slope is defined in many ways, but they are all essentially the same. It is the change in y divided by the change in x.

I like my students writing one above the other so that (as) they always start with the same point, and (b) they don't mix up their x's and y's.

The formula for slope is y (sub 1 - y sub 2) / (x sub 1 - x sub 2), where sub means subscript, which just denotes which point it is.

(x,y)
(-1,-7)
(-3,8)

change in y's: -7 - 8 = -15

change in x's: -1 - (-3) = -1 + 3 = 2 *** note - (-3) is + 3

So plugging into our formula we have m = -15/2 or -7 1/2 or -7.5.

Good luck,

Paul

What is the length of a hypotonuse triangle with legs being 4 and 3

a^2 + b^2 = c^2
a squared + b squared = c squared, where c is the length of the hypotenuse, and a and b are the lengths of the other two sides in a right-angled triangle.

Q is inversely proportional to p cubed, when p is 2, q is 4 what is q when p is 5 what is p when q is 9?

q = x/(p^3) Substituting in 2 for p and 4 for q, we calculate x = 32 Now the formulas are q=32/p^3, or p=(cube root of 32/q)
