Damage or destruction caused by transient voltages and surge currents are in fact covered by your home insurance as long as you can get from your utility supplier confirmation of an out surge caused by this storm. This is a solution to your problem as often damage caused by an electrical storm is such, it is not worth trying to repair it. Damage to switched mode PSU and logic circuits renders the TV beyond economical repair.

Just stopped working. No burning smell. When start button pushed, some kind of tiny "click" sound heard around the timer.

The click is most likely the timer motor moving the dial on the timer. The motor circuit on American dryers is 120 volts whilst the heater requires 240 volts to operate its 5k element. The motor circuit always has the fuse in it. The heating element has limits mounted on it but they only kill power to the element and not the motor. Fuses are usually located on the blower housing next to the control thermostat. MORE HERE

Hi. We're having power outages in TX right now. When power in house came back on, our Philips Home Theatre System (HTS 3544) seems to have lost all its power. We've plugged and unplugged the unit, and...

These are prone to power spikes...and for that reason have a fuse located on the power supply board...known as fast blow fuses...which are glass and easy to see if they have blown..sometimes all you need to do is replace the fuse on the rear of the unit if you can locate a fuse cap...just unscrew and replace....Always unplug televisions and audio equipment and routers during power outages and thunderstorms as a preventative to blowing psu panels on electrical devices connection to your house mains for this reason .

It's my mothers and she had a power surge during a thunderstorm in Tulsa, ok. The power in the whole house flickered off then on again. the TV was on...went off with everything else (no surge...

I have seen a few cases when all that is necessary to repair would be to replace the power fuse. In worst cases transistors and resistors will be blown. You will have to find a TV tech to inspect the power supply. Give me a few hands and thanks for asking!

Light comes on but refrigerator and freezer are not cooling. this happened after a thunderstorm shut off house power over the weekend.

I don't know what brand, how old, what the model is but if only the light works, you could be looking a shorted defrost board or def timer, burn't wire somewhere, or toasted start relay/overload on the compressor. The cold control may also be shorted. Just not enough info, sorry.

Can a tv ordvd player be fixed after going dead after a thunderstorm

Not usually. If the thunderstorm damaged it, there is most likely all kinds of burnt circuits. Most warranties don't cover that kind of damag either, unless it was plugged into a power strip of some kind that has a gaurrantee against damage.

TV won't turn on

The set is in protective shutdown because a problem was detected. The 5 blink code indicates that the problem circuit. In this case it is the blanking circuit. Were there any indications of problems prior to the storm? If not, I'll need to lok up this one for the specifics. Do you intend to repair this yourself?

Let me know and I'll provide the details.
Thanks,
Dan

Flashing On Timer

This is usually an indication for a scan failure, and or high voltage failure. Also, the power supply may be damaged.

Depending on the nature of the failure, this type of service can be sort of expensive. I sugget to get an estimate before deciding.
