Hi,

Make sure to get the latest driver from the Wacom site to ensure that your tablet is supported with your version of windows.

This means that the driver you have is NOT suitable for Vista. You will have to obtain one for ya Tablet. Try the link below. www.wacom-europe.com/uk/downloads/driver/driver.asp And a work arround in case it all get "mucky" lol www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=6790 G L.

SOURCE: serial to usb wacom tablet problem

I just got Vista and it killed my Intuos2 w/serial to usb also, but here's a half solution:
Download Wacom driver 4.78-6 http://www.wacom-europe.com/int/downloads/driver/driver.asp?lang=en. Make sure you remove any other Wacom drivers, tablet, and reboot. Install 4.78-6 driver and select serial port when the choice pops up. Plug in your tablet with the serial to usb adapter, wait a few seconds and click retry. Complete the install and reboot.
Your Wacom tracking should work now, but certain things might not work like pressure sensitivity and you'll get annoying error "reinstall driver" pop-ups.

I think you can aslo buy a PCI-serial card for your computer and skip the serial-usb adapter since Vista doesn't support the adapter for Wacom tablets.. but I'm not sure if there's a working Vista serial Wacom driver either.. or ever will be. The age of XP and Legacy support is at an end my friends.

SOURCE: WIRE FROM WACOM TABLET NEEDS REPLACEMENT

This cable is not user replaceable because the cord connects inside the tablet.
I called Wacom tech support about my Intuos3 with similar issue (cord problem). They will replace the cable for $75. I asked if could purchase a cable for myself (I didn't want to send my tablet in) but they do not sell the cable directly to consumers because you'd have to open your tablet. (I found out the hard way that the inside of the tablet is held together with pressure; so once opened, parts inside shift and it becomes a puzzle to put back together.)
Hope that helps in some small way!

Pen pressure and scale problems

I also use Intuos 3 tablet, did you already try replacing the tip and reconfiguring the pen to the screen? You can find this in the driver software, it synchronizes the pen and tablet.
If you already tried that, does the problem only occur in Photoshop? Also, check your brush preferences, you can go back to your default settings and see. If talking to Wacom fails, you might have a bad pen or tablet.

Wacom Tablet

pderozza,

I had a similar problem. My wacom tablet only worked in photoshop. Very annoying. I was able to fix this by doing the following:

  1. Open Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services
  2. Right click on TabletPC Input Services and pick properties.
  3. In the General tab make sure startup type is Automatic.
  4. Make sure the services is started.
  5. In the Log On tab make sure the radio button is on Local System, and check Allow service to interact with desktop.
I think I broke it in the first place because I was annoyed with the Tablet PC services running in the background, and tried to stop them. I've just learned to live with it.
