You have to hook up the TV to a router or hub, not a computer
SOURCE: Cannot connect to Computer
Turn off computer. Turn ON computer and immediately hold down Apple+option+p+r. after 4 chimes let go. You are going to be using the Firewire cable. once the camera is on and plugged into computer go to : apple> about this mac> more info click on Firewire. on the right hand side you should see your camera.
Now if you don't its either the Firewire port on camera or the cable it self.
to further isolate. Get your older computer. leave off. plug the firewire cable into both computers. Now the older computer that is turned off. TURN ON and immediately hold down the " T " on keyboard. ON the polder mac, your screen with have like a "Y" icon.. its a Firewire icon. Now look on the other computers desktop, do you see a yellow or blue hard drive on desktop. IF you do.. ITS your camera because we just tested your cable and both ports and they are working.
Now try the USB cable and see if its detected by computer by going back to Apple system profiler and see if the computer is detecting it
Testimonial: "Still didn't solve the problem. Looks like its the camera. Thank you for trying to help. I appreciate it."

Did you change the display preferences in the main menu to mirror the display onto your tv? If not please click on the Apple logo(main Menu)-> Go to Preferences-> Displays(depending on the OSX version you have) -> Arrangement -> Mirror Displays. Save the changes and the the resolution should be automatically adjusted to match that of your tv and you will see the laptop's screen on the tv. If you do not want it to mirror displays and display only on the external monitor drag the selection pane on the external monitor. This post has images to show you what I mean
