Our Bernina 1080 will not sew slowly. The pedal works for the Bobbin and that is variable and controllable. However the actual sewing cannot be slowed with the foot peddle and only goes full speed.

Because you say all was working for a while before this latest event, it will be the supressor that has failed, they are generally in the foot control (some machines have them in the main body near the power inlet) and it needs to be removed, it only stops interference to Radio & TV and is not necessary for correct function...............your nose will tell you if it is in foot pedal or inside the machine..

Unplug from mains, undo cover/s and find the electronic looking item which is cracked, burnt & probably oozing brown goo and smelling like burned plastic only worse.... Simply remove this from the circuit, clean the region with some denatured spirit, methanol or similar, wait until completely dry and re-assemble....this should fix the problem of the machine "running on" by itself....as to whether you have done a good job of the initial electrical repair, only you will know that.

By the way, how's the dog ? Guess the machine was not plugged in at the time !!

Artisa 630 just started sewing slowly

This tells you about cleaning the machine, but your problem is that the track in the foot pedal needs cleaning. It is a carbon brush that slides on a coil. Yours is sticky to start with an improves as it warms up.

Could a missing bobbin case keep a Bernina 1000 from running? It turns on, and the hand dial works, but foot pedal doesn't run the machine

no a bobbin case won't keep it from running, there may be a problem with the foot control, or the plug that you plug the foot pedal into may have a problem, may need to have the machine check along with the foot pedal

How do I remove the back panel of my Bernina 1080 sewing machine?

The back panel on the BERNINA 1080 is not removable. These machines are cast metal, and the main body does not disassemble. The top of the machine will come off, but what it sounds like is that your bobbin winder is engaged, and the clutch in the machine is preventing the machine from turning. Try disengaging the bobbin winder and see if your machine will run. If not, I would reccomend taking your machine to a certified BERNINA technician for repair.
