I have an Asko D3111. Never had a problem until now. It is making a noise whilst it is washing and smells like something is burning. Wondering if it is an expensive job to get fixed?

SOURCE: Grinding noise from Heater and burning smell from 1997 Dodge Cara

the problem could be in the blower wheel or motor, is there a vibration with the blower on and grinding. i rec removing blower motor and inspecting that further. debris could be cought inside it or blower may need replacing. it may not be that bad of a repair $$.

SOURCE: GE JVM1870SK03 won't heat food, hums and puts out a burning smell

With the symptoms you have, I would most strongly suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or a bad magnetron.

The diode is a fairly cheap fix, and the mag will cost more and is more complicated to replace.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for test help, but read the safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html (if it is NOT shorted, it's probably fine)

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html (continuity can be good even though it is bad!)

There should also be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

If it needs a new magnetron, you'll have to remove it from the wall, then remove the outer cover. If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

If you want to contact GE about having an authorized servicer look at it, or have them send you a magnetron, GE Customer Service is here.

SOURCE: LOUD NOISE AND BURNING SMELL

How old is this dryer? If it is older that 15 years get a new one. You don't want to deal with the headaches. The motor may be going bad on it and the wiring could be melting. I assume it is not working now. Have him check the breakers. Make sure the connections are o.k. in the back. Clean out the lint piping and look for lint underneath it as well.

Asko t701 dryer burning smell

Loud noise is not a good description. What does it sound like? The dryer has a belt that turns the drum, the belt can wear and slip, there is a also a tensioner pulley on the belt system and then there is the motor that turns the drum. The smell could be from the belt, however you should know that dryers are not maintenance free and you have to clean them at least annually because they can build up lint in the cabinet and that lint can get into the heating element and it can start a fire.

My Indesit IDL40 dishwasher, loud bang with slight burning smell but still working?

Any burning smell is not good. Indicates that something in there is too hot and perhaps melting something. Could even catch fire......

Could very well be that whatever is responsible for the noise can be causing the problemo.

ASKO 7000 series washer drum stopped rotating. Smelled of burning. Could not turn the drum by hand. Guessing a burned out bearing as electronics and pump still work and are trying to turn steel drum. ...

check inside your washer for nails or other objects . I already seen a nail fall down in one of the basket holes and the nail stuck into the outer tub not allowing the basket to spin. If you dont see anything in the basket holes, then it is your bearings. The burning smell is coming from your belt. The motor is spinning but your basket is not. It is cheaper to buy a new washer. In ordered to fix your washer you have to rebuild it. The bearing are built into the outer tub of the washer.

I drive 3181 N42 02 Reg. I'v been told the car has oil leak, jus yesterday whilst driving I could smell something like burning metal and a particular noise I don't know where it is coming from. Please...

Let an auto tech look at it because one way or the other it's going to end up on some tech's hands. Burning oil smell must be from the valve cover leak and dripping on top of the hot exhaust manifold burning it. The only time I smelled burning metal odor was from a smelting plant. It had an acidic smell that going to put you in tears.
