Question about Vitamix Blenders

Open Question

My Vitamix Vita Prep 3 high function isn't working completely? The blender works fine with the variable speed, but when switched to high it barely goes any faster.

Does this mean the motor is about to go out? Is the PCB not working correctly? Or can I order a new switch with new wiring? These blenders are used in a high volume smoothie/juice bar and the warranties are no longer valid therefore we are repairing them ourselves. Any troubleshooting tips and help are GREATLY appreciated.

Switch must be bad, remove the four screws on the bottom they are under the feet, then check switches, and replace broken one.

SOURCE: leaking blender

It could be the gasket, could definitely be that crack in the collar, and even possibly the blade assembly - here is the official website to get all of those parts:

SOURCE: how to make a smoothie with my bamix handheld blender

That wonderful little stick is all you need, I sure love mine! Make sure your Mixing cup is larger than the one supplied and remember to pump up and down vigorously as you blend. Keep swirling the bottom to make sure everything got picked up and blended. You can also make powdered salt,(great for french fries) powdered sugar, Dried garlic can be made into your own freshest garlic powder (great for spaghetti and pizza). peanut butter, apple butter and Whipped cream. I also use mine to make a crazy Jello only treat that tastes like sherbet, ice cream and Jello just by blending Jello and Ice cubes. Then I chill right away after pouring it into small 3 inch glasses.

Why isn't variable speed variable?

If you replaced and wired up the switch and potentiometer correctly and the new parts are not faulty that only leaves the Printed Circuit Board as the cause of the problem, it won't be the motor.

How do I check for power to motor?

If you have to ask how to do it then there is a good chance that you will not have the equipment to do the check and if you do have a meter you will be electrically unsafe doing it. For starters you need a multi meter, disconnect the motor from the speed control pcb and check it for a circuit. It is more likely that the motor or pcb will be faulty, cable faults on blenders are very rare but now you have your meter you can disconnect the cable from the pcb and check each wire for a circuit.

Waring blender switch wiring

most blenders throttle the power by using different taps inside the motor winding themselfs ., the switch just selects what tap to use and applies power to that winding , just three windings can produce multi speeds if used in combinations sorry no easy fix for switchs other than to make sure theres no food down inside them , i use a good electrical contact spray (CRC) down in them to make sure

Does anyone have a schematic showing how to put the motor back together. mine was taken apart, and now I can't find the washers and need to replace and put everything back together correctly. any help...

follow this steps . God bless you
  1. Unplug the blender and remove the jar. Undo the screws securing the baseplate. Separate the baseplate and attached motor collar from the base housing.
  2. To remove the switch housing, remove the decorative facing to get at the top screws. Remove the lower screws from inside the blender base.
  3. Hold the fan to keep the motor shaft from turning as you unscrew the drive stud. Remove the shield and any washers. Unscrew the fan nut to remove the fan.
  4. Disengage the strain-relief fitting from the housing. Remove the wire connector joining the power cord and the lead to the brush housing.
  5. Label and disconnect the lead wires from the switch block. Remove the motor mounting bolts and lift out the motor if necessary.
  6. To free brushes, remove the leads attached to the brush housing. Use a screwdriver to press lead terminal through the slot in housing. The brush spring may pop out (don't lose it!).

Why the lights on my kitchen aid baking not coming on

Check for loose connections from mains cable to PCB and from PCB to motor. Check motor for circuit continuity, it may need a new motor, it is rarely the PCB.

Have you tried the fuse first....

If it is the motor (quite rare), these people may be able to order you one:

Power flashes but doesnt start

Yes, I know what it is. On the base of the blender jar (the plastic base) there are some "fingers" that must contact the base to allow operation to take place. Turn it upside down and look at the little plastic "fingers" around the outside periphery of the plastic base.

These fingers tend to break over time... mine only has two left right now, and it only works in one particular position as a result.

Rotate the blender jar one spot at a time until you are able to operate it "normally". I use it for margaritas, and it won't allow me to push the button for Frozen Drink unless the jar is in the right position.

I am going to try and find a replacement base (or entire blender jar) somewhere... or else I will finally have to retire my favorite blender of all time!

Will not work

First ensure that the blender jar is placed on the right orientation, othherwise the blender wont start.
Remove the Jar and place it on the other way if you are not sure.

If you still get the click, try leaving the blender power cord unplugged for a while. The click means that the blender has power, but the motor is not starting.
If it still does not work , and the jar is in the correct way and you did the above, then the blender is faulty, probably a faulty motor, or a broken wiring.

Repairing the blender:
My guess: You worked the motor too hard on your last blending session and it overheated. That will cause a thermal fuse inside to cut off. The blender won't work again until you replace the fuse but otherwise it should be fine. The fuse looks like a white diode and it will be attached tightly to the motor with a nylon strap (so that it can pick up the heat of the motor). The leads to the fuse are shielded with heat resistant nylon wrap. You will need to remove the rubber drive gear in order to remove the plastic house so you can work, although if you are really handy you might be able to at least test the unit by only removing the plastic bottom on the base unit.

To remove the plastic housing, remove the little rubber feet and then remove all of the screws on the bottom of the unit. You may need to buy a bit set for tamper resistant screws (I ***hate*** those), I don't remember. When the bottom is removed, you will see that the there is a screw head on the bottom of the central motor shaft. You can use a screw driver here to hold the motor from turning, then you can carefully use a pliers to unscrew the rubber drive gear on the top of the base unit (try not to damage the rubber). With the gear removed you can get access to the wires.

To test the fuse unit, just check its continuity. Short=good, open=bad. To further test, short out the fuse with a jumper cable and your blender should work.

EPO (Electronics Parts Outlet) in Houston, TX, has the replacement fuse unit. I don't know that they like mail order.

With the unit upside-down and the bottom off the wires on the right side of the switch go like this:
yellow on top
