Question about RCA D56W20 56" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Does not turn on

I've been having problems with my tv for a while now and it just finally gave in. I tried to turn it on and the green power light came on for about 4 seconds and just shut off. There was no picture or sound either. Before this I was having trouble with the color alignment, the convergence I guess. The blue would not allow me to adjust up or down. But before that the picture itself would become distorted, wavy, and colors out of line. So I would stomp on the floor or hit the side of the tv lightly and it would fix itself. Any ideas as to what could be the problem? It is about 10 yrs. old but has been no problem until now. Thanks we have unpluged it and left it unplugged for a while and then plugged it back up but still nothing

There might be a cold solder in its PCB... If the problem is not serious. If you know how to do it, if not a service technician can.

OK, need to know a few things before providing an answer on this one

1) Has the screen flickered in the recent past?
2) Has this ever occurred before?
3) Have you heard any noise coming from the monitor?
4) Has the screen grown dim or brighter lately

Thanks!

Trying to program a direct tv remote to work with my 46" lcd, Vizio tv. Have tried the codes provided, but they don't show when I type them...not sure if actually being entered. Or, maybe have...

1 Vizio tv.code 0864 OR 10885 OR 11756OR 10178

Unable to Find Correct Code
If you were unable to find the code for your brand of TV or component, you can try a code search. This process may take up to 30 minutes.
1. Turn on the TV or component. Insert a tape or disk if applicable.
2. Slide the MODE switch to the TV, AV1 or AV2 position, as desired.
3. Press and hold the MUTE and SELECT keys at the same time until the green light under the selected switch position flashes twice, then release both keys.
4. Enter 9-9-1 followed by one of the following four digits:
Satellite - 0
TV - 1
VCR/DVD - 2
Stereo Receiver/Stereo Amplifier - 3
5. Press PWR, or other functions (e.g. PLAY for VCR) you want to use.
6. Point the remote at the TV or component and press CHAN+. Repeatedly press CHAN+ until the TV or component turns off.
NOTE: Every time CHAN+ is pressed the remote advances to the next code and power is transmitted to the component.
7. Use the CHAN- key to step back a code.
8. When the TV or component turns off, stop pressing the CHAN+ key. Then, press and release the SELECT key.
NOTE: If the light flashes 3 times before the TV or component responds, you've cycled through all codes and the code you need is not available. You must use the remote that came with your TV or component.

Verifying the Codes
Once you have set up the DIRECTV Universal Remote Control using the above steps, use the following instructions to find out the 5-digit code to which your component responded:
1. Slide the MODE switch to the appropriate position.
2. Press and hold the MUTE and SELECT keys at the same time until the green light under the selected switch position flashes twice, then release both keys.
3. Enter 9-9-0. (The green light under the selected switch position flashes twice.)
4. To view the first digit in the code, Press and release then number 1 key. Wait three seconds, and count the number of times the green light flashes. Write this number down.
5. Repeat step 4 four more times for the remaining digits; i.e., press number 2 for the second digit, 3 for the third digit, 4 for the fourth digit and 5 for the final digit.\

Depending on how you set up your remote, the VOL and MUTE may control the volume only on your TV, regardless of the position of the MODE switch. This remote can be set up so that the VOL and MUTE keys work only with the component selected by the MODE switch. To enable this feature, perform the following steps:
1. Press and hold the MUTE and SELECT keys until the green light under the DIRECTV position flashes twice, then release both keys.
2. Using the number keys, enter 9-9-3. (The green light will flash twice after the 3.)
3. Press and release the VOL+ key. (The green light flashes 4 times.)
Now the VOL and MUTE keys will work only for the component selected by the MODE switch position.

To Lock Volume to AV1, AV2 or TV
1. Slide the MODE switch to the AV1, AV2 or TV position to lock the volume.
2. Press and hold the MUTE and SELECT keys until the green light under the selected switch flashes twice and release both keys.
3. Using the number keys, enter 9-9-3. (The green light flashes twice.)
4. Press and release the SELECT key. (The green light flashes twice.)

I own a Sharp Aquos LCD model LC46D43U. It's 3 1/2 years old. When I turned on the TV, the power does not come on. It clicks like it's trying to power up and repeats itself 4 or 5 times every 4 - 5...

there is a problem with the power supply. most likely too much ripple that is ac leaking into the dc. I have seen the power supply repaired but it is not always possible. If there is an obvious swelled capacitor on the power supply that can be replaced this will be the best bet for repair. If there is nothing visually obvious then it gets a little harder since you won't really know which component is not working, the tv shuts down on a protection circuit so if the power supply can be repaired and the voltage "cleaned up" then the tv could work again. I have also seen replacement power supplys sold.

Have a Magnavox 37 inch lcd hd tv When I turn the power on the green light flashes for about 10 minutes or so then goes solid. Once it is solid it turns off Turn it back on its solid again then off it goes...

sounds like the audio / digital board is going bad ---- they are about 130 refurbished and 300 new ----- look for one online before you pay an overpriced service tech who really doesnt know how to fix these tv's ----

I called the service support and they gave me three companies in Nevada --- each one of them had no idea what the codes meant, but would look at the TV for 225.00 - sounds like they need new companies to do their repairs on warranty

you probably had a bad solder connection on one of the convergence modules, it's a common problem with projo tv's. that loose connection finally got bad enough to cause a short in the module, and that's what is sending the power supply into shutdown. have it fixed, and have them replace all of the convergence modules, not just the bad one. if one went out, the other(s) (there are 2, sometimes 3 of them) are the same age, and likely will also fail soon. ...... gee i was looking for a picture of one of those modules, but can't find one. well, anyway the modules are on large pieces of finned aluminum (heat sinks), and are about 3-4 inches wide, 2 inches tall, 1/2 inch thick, are usually black plastic, and have about 20 wire leads coming out of the bottom going down to the circuit board.
