My kindle fire [new 2 mos. ago] has a green line around the opening page, and it will move to lock, camera, safe mode but nothing will open. I tried the kindle support - $5 +$49 for help?

There should be free help for a year at least. I am a senior and can no longer read books - I need the large print that Kindle provides.

Donno if this will help but these are the issues and how I somehow managed to clear most of them on my Kindle HD fire (7 inch); I got mine about 2011 I think.
Problems I've come across with HD Fire; Glitches, blinking screen, very slow or stopping to work, Very slow loading, Freezing program and final; 1/2 screen (the worst of it)
* Slow or frozen is usually cleared by turning off (or flipping cover closed if you have an on/off type of case.
* Glitchy loading; Try to turn off or remove apps you don't use or rarely use. Many run in the back ground and take up memory, speed, bandwidth, and battery power. Check on youtube for help with this as it can be clumbersome.
* White out, is a symptom of over heating (like in a hot car or at the beach in direct sun light.) this is scary as nothing works. Dead giveaway is that the Kindle if very hot! Remove from heat source and take it out of case. Leave it on a FIRE PROOF table top like stone or metal. Use a cookie tray if you have one. Caution! if the kindle was heating up by itself while charging then remove from charger! Check if it's the right charger or charge with a lower power unit (300-500 milliamps) but do this AFTER it cooled down. Don't use a fast charger! Heat and Battery charging are a bad combination and will damage your kindle. I'm still using mine afer ....7 years? yeah the 1/2 screen clears up after the charge gets below 80%. Donno why this happens. It might be the battery may be swelling during certain power levels. It reall does not like being charged to 100%.
* For the errors listed above the final solution (besides returning it to Amazon) is to do a complete power shut down or hard shut down which involves holding the on/off button down for at least 30 seconds. This is like a laptop hard reset. Turn it back on after a minute and it will slowly power back up. Oh, forgot; Don't let the Kindle ever get to the point that it crashes completely. Once you get the final 5 min low battery warning. PLUG it back in to charge! You run the risk of corrupting apps and data. Some may need re-install.
* Okay the very last resort; Check that you back up all data to your cloud drive. Many kindle apps will do this already (like Checkbook) But if you have documents that were created on the kindle and not sourced out then have it uploaded to your Kindle (Amazon) cloud. Check the kindle help line for more info. OKAY: Now go to your kindle:
1. Swipe from top - down for menu.
2. Swipe menu to left to get to (+) More...
3. On settings choose Device.
4. Choose Reset to Factory Defaults.
5. If you WROTE down your passwords and account #'s and have them handy then proceed with "yes" to continue.
If not the STOP! and cancel, get out of menu and go find all your account info:
- Wireless access password (yours)
- Amazon Account Name, User ID, Password.
- You will need to reload all your apps that you currently use. Don't load stuff that you rarely use as you can always load them later as they reside in you amazon cloud account. You should not need to repurchase them. (though I've had problems with apps that require a "Key" code as they don't always work and some require 'proof' that you already purchased them.
6. Reset and let it go through it's power up and new customer initial set up. You will be surprised at what you forgot, even after a month. Try 7 years and you won't remember a thing!
* I'm reluctant to perform a factory reset as all my game scores, past history, and other stuff gets lost. Once I waited 2 years before giving up. (+$70,000.00 on Vegas style Solitare)

PS; if you have two kindles or more and it's for the (adult) kids then think about keeping them on one account as anything you buy (books) will also be available to them and visa versa. Or if saparate then you can loan them the book or purchase it as a gift.

SOURCE: WHY DOES OUR KINDLE 3

The kindle does in fact have social features! The kindle allows you to share highlighted text on facebook. Here is a quick quide to get you started!
Sharing on a Registered NetworkPosting to Facebook or Twitter is as easy as highlighting a passage and adding a comment. When you select the share option, your comments will be sent automatically to your registered social networking sites, appended with a backlink to a web page showing the passage you highlighted.
To create a highlight and note to share:

  1. Place the cursor at the beginning of the passage using the 5-way controller and press down to anchor it.
  2. Highlight the passage using the 5-way controller.
  3. Enter your note or comment about the passage you highlighted. (There is a 100 character limit.)
  4. Select "save & share" from the options at the bottom of the note window when finished.
If you don't have a Facebook or Twitter account associated with your Kindle account, you'll automatically be prompted to manage your social network registration before your message is posted. If you choose not to link your Kindle account to your social media networks, your highlights and notes will still be saved in the book, as well as at https://kindle.amazon.com.
To share from your existing notes and marks:
  1. Open the book that contains the note or highlight.
  2. Press the Menu button and select "View My Notes & Marks."
  3. Highlight the item you wish to share in your Notes & Marks.
  4. Press Alt + 832217950.gif on the keyboard to share.
You can also navigate to a section in your book that contains a note or highlight, select it with your cursor, and press Alt + 832217950.gif on the keyboard to share.

As long as they are both registered to the same account. You can transfer them by going to 'Manage Your Kindle' or they will be archived, as long as you downloaded the books via Amazon.

My kindle cant connect to internet

Go to the Settings Menu, Select the Wireless & VPN option and see if you are in Airplane mode, if you are turn that off. Then select Wi-Fi. See if Wi-Fi is turned on. If it's not turn it on. There should be a list of available Wi-Fi routers. If one is not selected select one that is open or that you have the password to. If none are open or they are locked and you don't have a password, you'll need to get a password for one, or install your own Wi-Fi router.

I am trying to charge a kindle fire for kids, before I give it to my grandchildren as a Christmas gift, nothing is happening when I plug in the charger

Not familiar with this but it should have a light next to the charge port. Yellow needs charging, green charged. If you get nothing try another cord. If still the same contact Amazon. Amazon. com, click on "Your account", choose Your account at top of page. On far right of page find Kindle help home. On left of next page click contact us. Leave a message and ask for phone call. They will call back soon as possible. I'm sorry to say it could be a faulty device but Amazon help desk will have the answers for you.

I didn't realize that was putting a pass word n .How can I open my kindle/

Forgot my password

Did you forget the password used to unlock your Kindle? If so, you'll need to reset the device to gain access. By resetting, your Kindle will be restored to factory defaults, which means your registration information and content will be removed, and all settings will return to the defaults.

To reset a Kindle Fire 1st Generation:
1. From the lock screen, slide the Unlock Bar from right to left
2. Use the keypad to enter characters into the password/PIN field four times
3. You'll be prompted to reset your Kindle Fire. Tap "Ok reset"

To reset all other Kindle Fire models:
1. From the lock screen, slide the Unlock Bar from right to left
2. Use the keypad to enter characters into the password/PIN field five times.
3. When prompted to reset your Kindle Fire, tap "Reset"

To reset a Kindle 2nd Generation, Kindle Keyboard, or Kindle DX:
1. Slide and release the power switch to turn on the device or exit sleep mode
2. Enter "resetmykindle" in the password field and press the enter key on the key pad
3. Wait several minutes while your Kindle restarts

To reset a Kindle (5-way controller):
1. Press and release the power button to turn on the device or exit sleep mode
2. Select the keyboard key once on the password screen and enter "resetmykindle" in the password field, then select "Enter"

To reset a Kindle Touch or Kindle Paperwhite:
1. Press and release the power button to turn on the device or exit sleep mode
2. Tap the password field to bring up the onscreen keyboard
3. Enter "111222777" and select "OK"

If you don't remember your Parental Controls password, you can deregister your device instead of resetting, as long as you're connected to a wireless network. You'll need to redownload your content, but items that were transferred via USB will be kept. Here's what to do:

1. Visit the Manage Your Content and Devices (www.amazon.com/manageyourkindle) page on your computer
2. Select the "Manage Your Devices" link
3. Select "Deregister" to deregister your device from your account
Sync your Kindle, then register again.

If you need help with your Wi-Fi password, please contact your Internet Service Provider or router manufacturer.

Kindle fire hd lockscreen

Prerequisites:

1. Kindle Fire HD 7", Kindle Fire HD 8.9" or Kindle Fire 2
2. Rooted Kindle: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2069117
3. Google Play: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2069329

Custom Locker Step 1. Using Google Play, search for "No Lock". Download and Install No Lock - You may use this link to verify the software: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...d.nolock&hl=en

Custom Locker Step 2: DO NOT Open No Lock, it will fail. Next, go to the Kindle, open up ES File Explorer or Root Explorer

Custom Locker Step 3: Be sure to enable Superuser on ES File Explorer. Navigate to /data/app, find org.jaf.androidnolock-1.apk - long press on the APK, select Move or Move To. Next, Move org.jaf.androidnolock-1.apk from /data/app to /system/app.

Custom Locker Step 4: Next find org.jaf.androidnolock-1.apk in /system/app. Long press and Choose Permissions (on Root Explorer) or Properties (on ES File Explorer). Change the Permissions to: Owner: Read Write Group: Read Others: Read - Click OK to apply the Permissions.

Custom Locker Step 5: DO NOT Open No Lock. Pull down the Upper Status Bar, Select More+, Select Sounds & Display and change the Screen Timeout to: Never and then reboot the Kindle.

Custom Locker Step 6: Once the Kindle is back to the desktop, open No Lock which is found in the Kindle Apps, select "Locking disabled".

Custom Locker Step 7: Using Google Play Search for MagicLocker Main which you can find here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.lockscreen.magiclocker - Download and Install Magic Locker Main

Custom Locker Step 8: Be sure to enable Superuser on ES File Explorer. Navigate to /data/app, find mobi.lockscreen.magiclocker-1.apk - long press on the APK, select Move or Move To. Next, Move mobi.lockscreen.magiclocker-1.apk from /data/app to /system/app.

Custom Locker Step 9: Next find mobi.lockscreen.magiclocker-1.apk in /system/app. Long press and Choose Permissions (on Root Explorer) or Properties (on ES File Explorer). Change the Permissions to: Owner: Read Write Group: Read Others: Read - Click OK to apply the Permissions.

Custom Locker Step 10: Using Google Play Search for MagicLocker Theme - Download and Install a few Themes that interest you. I use Starry lock screen and Jelly Bean lock screen.

Custom Locker Step 11: Launch MagicLocker Main, click on Next, Next, Next - You will now see a popup, click Next and choose Clear Defaults until it Grays Out, click on the picture of a house (Home Button), you will be asked which Launcher to Use, you choose MagicLocker Main <Select Default>.

Custom Locker Step 12: Launch MagicLocker Main, sometimes you are taken to your regular Launcher App, if this happens repeat Step 11. Select "Lost Robot Music" and click Apply. Next MagicLocker applies the Theme and asks if you would like to Customize it, answer Yes or No depending on your interests. I selected No so we can move on. You can always customize it latter.

Custom Locker Step 13: Next MagicLocker will show you an example of the Theme. Unlock it by pulling down the circle in the Android Picture.

Custom Locker Step 14: Now we need to customize the way MagicLocker reacts when you unlock to the Left which is a Phone Call and when you unlock to the Right which is a SMS Application. Unlock straight down just unlocks the screen.

Custom Locker Step 15: OK, lock the Kindle by depressing the Power Button for 1 brief Second until the screen turns black. Depress the Power Button briefly again, you will see the lock Screen. Unlock to the Right, next you are asked which is your SMS Software, I use Go SMS Pro. Check the Box to "Always use this application". Unlock to the Left, next you are asked which is your Phone Software, I use Google Voice and Groove. Check the Box to "Always use this application".

Custom Locker Step 16: Next, let's install the Themes. Find the name of the Themes you downloaded in Step 8. In this example we picked Starry lock screen and Jelly Bean lock screen. So go into the Apps. Find Starry lock screen, click on Starry lock screen and select "Install this theme". The installer will process and you will be back at the MagicLocker main Theme Menu. Exit MagicLocker, then go to Apps, find Jelly Bean lock screen, click on Starry lock screen and select "Install this theme". The installer will process and you will be back at the MagicLocker main Theme Menu.

Custom Locker Step 17: Now we need to let MagicLocker know what is your Default Launcher, so launch MagicLocker, find Preferred Home Launcher, click on Preferred Home Launcher and select your Launcher, we use Nova Launcher Prime.

Custom Locker Step 18: Let's eliminate the Ads from ever appearing again. Open either ES File Explorer or Root Explorer, navigate to /system/app find the dtcp_apk.ap, long press dtcp_apk.apk select Rename. Rename dtcp_apk.apk to dtcp_apk.old.

Custom Locker Step 19: Reboot the Kindle.

Custom Locker Step 20: Whenever you reboot, the Kindle Fire Framework starts before anything else, so you may see the Kindle lock screen at Reboot IF you do not let everything start. If you can not wait 5 to 10 minutes, unlock it and let all the services start, usually 10 minutes is sufficient. Once you unlock it, you will notice there are no more Ads! After 10 minutes No Lock Service kicks in and disables the Kindle Fire Lock Screen. We have attempted to play with the start-up timing and ended up with Framework missing, so Amazon was smart when they thought out this function. Also, the service that controls the lock screen is part of the same group that displays the Kindle Framework when you unlock it. Finally, if you do wait 10 minutes you will never see the old Kindle Fire Lock Screen!

That is it! Next we will offer you a solution with the stock lock screen but you will need high resolution photos to make it function properly. Be sure to look at our new Backup and Recovery Software for the Kindle Fire Series: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2096888
